Is anyone suffering or has suffered gallstones during pg?

Hi All,

I'm waiting on a scan and bloods to confirm I have gallstones. My pain fits the symptoms perfectly.

I had an attack last night for about 6-7 hours. Agony. Does anyone have any advise on managing their pain?

I'm 13 weeks, don't know if i'll have to grin and bear it or I'll get some treatment?

Hi, I have kidney stones and discovered them in my 1st pregnancy (7 years ago), I think they are treated similarly and it's really bloody painful, i had constant water infections and was on permanent amoxicillin throughout my pregnancy. At 28 weeks the infection went into my kidney and caused me to go into labour, luckily it was stopped though, there is nothing they can do really when your pregnant it's just a case ov managing the pain safely for baby. I had loads of time off work with it as it made me really ill and i hope you dont get that ill ! I can remember begging to be admitted to hospital so i could get pethadine as it was the only thing that worked towards the end. I was induced at 38 weeks too as the infections become more regular.
I had an op to remove them 4 months after giving birth and had no probs since and on 3rd pregnancy now (fingers crossed i can last 10 weeks with no hitches)
Sorry it's not a happy story but I can completely sympathise with you and the pain it causes.
But Its deffo worth it in the end :)

My sister had gallstones for years, but didn't realise. She found she had certain trigger foods that set off the pain (oranges, eggs, possibly more). It might be worth you figuring out if you have any of these and avoiding them?

Hi, I've had gallstones although not during pregnancy. I found things like cheese and fizzy drinks set mine off. It was helpful to work out what I had eaten before I had an attack and cut that out of my diet.

I had my gallbladder taken out after about a year as I couldnt take it anymore. You have all my sympathy cause it aint fun!

dh has gallstones (obviously not while being pg though ) and is waiting for surgery. we've managed to control the pain by changing diet. avoiding all high fat foods. it's taken a while to find out what foods trigger bad attacks, but the pains don't get anywhere near as bad as they used to.

Thanks all. The pain got overwhelming on Friday night. So bad I called the out of hours gp to see what medication I could get for pain. Halfway through making an appt it just switched off, like a light.

I'm hoping that was one passing? If nhs pull finger out and get the scan scehduled I should find out if there are more to come. I haven't found a pattern to food yet, will keep a diary.
