Hi,

First off I want to clarify that I am NOT COMPLAINING, just surprised and curious to find out if this is the norm.

My appointments:
midwife at 10+ weeks
scan at 13+ weeks
consultant at 16+ weeks
Scan at 21 weeks
Midwife wants to see me again at 28 weeks
consultant at 34 weeks
C section at 39 weeks.

I'm sure I saw my MW more in pregnacies 1 and 2. Is this the same for you if this is your 3rd or more prgnancy?

That sounds about right (in fact, I've never seen my consultant) - but in addition there's a bunch of GP appointments to factor in.

My appointments were pretty much like that until 34 weeks but then have had another appointment today at 36 weeks (home birth check the house is ok and that I understand the risks) and will have another general antenatal one at 38 weeks. I definitely did see the midwife more with DS and DD, but at 28 weeks the midwife just said to call her if the movements decreased or I just wanted to see her. I didn't so was ok to wait until 34 weeks.

Sounds like me - saw midwife at 8 weeks, scan at 13 (put my dates forward to 15 wks), midwife wants to see me at 16 and scan at 20.

Thought the visits were sparse in 2nd pregnancy - I'm guessing resources are limited and they make a judgment call based on risk and their assessment of how you'll be during the pregnancy.

i think things have changed over the last few years, as im sure i remember seeing midwife more often 2 (always reassuring 2 hear heartbeat).
this time (ignoring consultant appointments which the midwife doesnt factor in) its something like scan at 7 weeks, midwife at 8 weeks, scan at 12 weeks, midwife at 16weeks, scan at 20 weeks, midwife at about 28weeks then another couple more times. but she did say if i ever want 2 c her at any other time 2 give the surgery a ring, she is lovely. i suppose they just dont need 2 c us more often unless we feel there may b a problem

yep, its my 3rd i am 9+4 today not seeing the mw till the 24th of may and then the gp said that they will more or less leave me alone. It was similar with dc2 though.

icravecheese · 05/05/2011 20:53

Yes, this sounds like my experience too, although it was also the samefor my 2ndpreg with fewer midwife appointments. I remember midwife visits after the birth of my 2nd baby were very sparse compared to my first, and even then I got a health care assistant visit me & not a midwife. My midwife is new for my 3rd Preg andis very sweet & said I can see her whenever I want if I'm worried about anything.I don't really mind at all-whilst its lovely to hear heart beat at appointments, taking my 2 children along to lots of appointments is hard work!

dollyshouse · 06/05/2011 01:37

MW doesn't want to see me till 18 weeks!! I have told nurse at docs am pg and details have been faxed to hospital who will send me appt for booking in and scan date but until then nothing!!! also my 3rd pg but with previous pregnancies MW has come to see me at home prior to scan!

dazedandconfused · 06/05/2011 16:21

Yes, I've found it strange 3rd time around. Monthly midwife appointments until 36 wks, then one at 38 and one at 40 wks, if I last that long. No doctors since 4 wks referral appt. The hospital (where I haven't given birth before) have also stopped doing tours so I'm not even sure where to go in labour! All very hands-off, and me nearly 40 - I thought they might have shown a little more concern. Last MW appt, she spent the time telling me how the previous woman's results had been missed by accident and she was really stressed - I ended up listening to her woes and realised afterwards she hadn't once asked how I was. I suppose they expect you to pop 'em out after two. Feeling a little envious of my friend who at 41 is considered 'high-risk' and has been offered scans every two weeks ... Grin

magicmelons · 06/05/2011 19:54

I'm a little disappointed I have to say, I thought the Midwife would come and do my booking at home, I tidied up and bought biscuits but I have to go to the GPs.

Hi. Im new to mn. I am 19 weeks with no3. I dont feel like the mw are really interested in seeing me this time around. I had difficult births both times before so am nervous about this one going the same way. Just had scan and am having 2nd girl. Dont see anyone now til end of june!
