Pregnancy

Talk about every stage of pregnancy, from early symptoms to preparing for birth.

I have just booked a waxing appointment for 9 on Saturday. I am nearly 7w pg. I am clearly insane, right?

hi all

I desperately need to get my legs, eyebrows and upper lip waxed, and the only time I can get it done is when I usually appear to be doing deep breaths to ward off the nausea. Any tips? Should I take a paracetamol beforehand?

Also, there isn't any problem with tinting one's eyebrows/lashes in early pregnancy is there?

Of course, in a few months time this may well be the least of my worries...

I had all that done right throughout my pregnancy.

The last time I had it done before DS's were born was 5 days and 3 days before the due date because I wanted to look reasonable for the baby photos.

Last time round I had a pedicure just before having dd, at least my toes looked ok even if the rest of me didn't!

The only thing I was going to say was to avoid a bikini wax, as I suspect this would cause pain afterwards (from my experience of going once when I was almost off my period). The rest is probably fine.

upahill · 05/05/2011 18:58

I don't know G1inger. I had the waxing right through to the end and it didn't feel any different from any other time tbh.

G1nger · 05/05/2011 19:00

Really, upahill? The one time I had my bikini area waxed while on the 'last' day of my period (not really a 'day' at all) I had awful period pains afterwards. Just a thought for the OP, I guess.

upahill · 05/05/2011 19:07

Honestly I did!!

My friend is a beautican so she has always done my waxing and manages to distract me perfectly everytime!!

I still go 'Ouch' though!

PipCarrier · 05/05/2011 19:34

Same here, never had any problems having my usual brazilian bikini wax throughout pregnancies.

Your pain threshold is actually higher first thing in the morning as well so that's a good time for an appointment!

I had a hollywood and leg wax done a couple of weeks ago at 9 weeks, didn't hurt a bit. Fully intend to continue the whole way through too as I did with DS.

angelene · 05/05/2011 20:37

Thanks everyone. Will see how I get on!

I have been getting waxed since I was about 17, and have never really struggled with it. However, I have noticed things are more sensetive 'down there' than usual. My beautician is wonderful and I have been going to her for years, so it's not her. Last time, I noticed that some of the skin tore a little, and I bled a bit in some areas. This has NEVER happened before, so I have put it down to the area just being more sensetive than usual?!?!? Any ideas? I am definitely not stopping... I can just handle the hairy belly, feral skin, sore belly and lack of any clothes that actually fit comfortably... but I will not go without that! Don't mean to take over the thread angel, just thought I would see if anyone else has experienced this.

I've been fine with a hollywood wax at 23 weeks, intend to continue throughout pregnancy

BrassicaBabe · 06/05/2011 10:22

I had a brazillian wax at the weekend. I'm 28 weeks pregnant and pass out when laying on my back. Now that's insane! Grin. I intend to keep going throughout my pregnancy and the beautician is happy to take longer so that I can keep moving to prevent fainting!

vallinnapod · 06/05/2011 15:00

I've tinted my eyelashes and continued with my brazilians throughout (22+6). I have to say I was cheeky and didn't tell them I was pregnant until last Saturday in case they had a problem with it (loads of places want you to be 12-14 weeks for any sort of treatment).

I have to say the two waxes before the one I had on Saturday were excrutiating. I normally have no real pain issues with them. So much so in fact that this week was my 'last shot'. Didn't hurt a bit! Must have just been 1st trimester hormones.

One thing I have noticed is that, eh-hem, the hair down there is growing at an alarming rate!

nickstermum · 06/05/2011 15:21

I have been waxed for the last 15 years and all through pg 1. I would say absolutely go for it, lets be honest now, you probably wont be able to reach your own bikini line soon Grin It does tend to be a little more tender when you are either on your period/ovulating or pg but... not really enough to take paracetamol! I wouldnt just for the sake of it.

Enjoy your plucked chicken effect Grin
