stomach cramps and pains during early pregnancy

Hi I'm writing this as I spent ages searching the internet for someone who had experienced the same thing -

I was getting really bad pain in my stomach, especially worse at night, waking me up every 2 hours, I was sweating and shaking from the pain, it happened in the day too but it was worse at night...

I went to my docs and he said to do a preg test and if it was positive go to a&e as it may be eptopic. I was maybe 4 weeks pregnant.

I was put under the care of the early pregnancy unit, and had blood tests every 2 days and I have had 3 internal scans to check everything is ok... turns out the pain was due to a cyst that grows to protect the developing egg detatching and breaking away.

I am now 8 weeks pregnant and the pains have stopped, and today we saw the heartbeat of our 1st baby :+)

Congratulations kri5ty :)

Pains and cramps are so common early on from all the burrowing down the bean is doing to get nice and comfy. I was in agony and convinced it was the beginnings of a mc but am now 18 weeks :)

The cyst will be the corpus luteum it is the remains of the follicle and should disappear around 9-12 weeks I think.

Hi peeps.

thank you for posting this. It is nice to know. It is my first post and was hoping someone could answer this for me:-)

LDNlady · 05/05/2011 17:21

Congratulations!

I had exactly the same thing happen within days of me discovering that I was pregnant. Was very painful and worrying but after two internal scans and checking the cyst at twelve weeks then at twenty week scan (when it had gone) all was well and I'm now 35 weeks. It's surprised me just how common these cysts appear to be.

Thanks guys :-) and good luck with your pregnancies :-)
I'm so overwhelmed since my scan today. It really is amazing and wonderful!

I am amazed also at how common the cysts are...

sabreuse.... if it is really painful I would go to your docs just to be safe, I was nearly passing out from the pain, although it was scary going for all the tests, it was great for someone to explain it x x

Congratulations on your pregnancykri5ty. Hope things are smooth sailing from here on in :)

I had that too. I was bent over in agony in the nights unable to breathe :(
Fortunately I saw the doctor and he had ruled an ectopic pregnancy out. I really thought that someone was ripping my uterus out of me, but the pains subsided as the corpus luteum had finished developing and got "used to" supplying the hormones.

I didn't see it in Wednesday's scan, so I assume it's gone now, as I have a working placenta at 11 weeks

I'm 6+1, and mega paranoid after two mc's this year so far!

I've had loads of cramping, including some mega painful ones, so the epu scanned me yesterday and all is just fine. Even saw a heartbeat!! I have a corpus luteum on my right ovary, so that's the one the egg came from, but at the moment it's not a problem. Oh other than 24/7 ms!!! Not that I'm complaining about symptoms Grin.

sunshinehugs · 07/05/2011 09:46

Great to hear all the good news! I had terrible cramping and pain in week 6 but my gp/midwife etc would not send me to the EPU unless I was bleeding. I am now in week 11 and don't have much in the way of symptoms but from reading this looks like its going to be OK! Seing the MW for booking in Monday and scan not booked till 17th!!

kri5ty · 07/05/2011 10:37

Aww good luck sunshinehugs
:) fingers crossed for your scan then you can breathe a sigh of relief! When I was under the epu they kept saying that it was a good sign I had no bleeding too x x

Brilliant news and reassuring for other people who've been there (though of course it must always be checked out).

I've been pg a couple of times (though only one dd atm) and have always suffered pain on the side the corpus luteum attaches. It's a very clever thing, keeps the hormones building and aids the developing pregnancy but it does seem to cause pain sometimes. I wonder if it's where it attaches. I also suffer from ovulation pain so I wonder if that makes me more susceptible?

Anyway, congratulations!

Hey everyone, just popping in to let you (and any future readers) know the scan went well and all is good with little baba!

TheGrandOldDuke · 21/01/2012 19:48

Am currently experiencing sharp pains on my right hand side - hoping it's this cyst thing and nothing worse. I know this is an old post, but has made my day to find someone with a similar sounding experience!
