Chromosome banding

Hi. I am new to this site and wondered if anyone would be able to able to shed light on chromosome banding??? I had an amnio last week and received my initial results privately which were negative with regard to down's. I have just received the NHS results and have been advised that there is evidence of 'chromosome banding'. The pre-natal clininc have asked myself and my husband to go for a blood test to see if we have this 'chromosome banding'. If so she said it would be quite usual for the baby to have it, but if not, we would have to do further tests and would be refered to a specialist. I did not have a clue what she was talking about and when I asked her what effect this could have on the baby she was the reluctant to tell me and said we do not like to worry parents at this stage!! Very helpful!!! I looked on the internet for some details but have been baffled by science so if anyone out there has experience of this I would reaaly appreciate some info.

Sorry I have no idea but am bumping for you.

Im no expert but Im pretty sure that the 'banding' is a method used to study the chromosomes, by way of using a dye to look at the otherwise invisible 'bands' that run across them.

Im sure someone here will know a lot more.

Thanks for replying anyway. My husband has mangaged to find some information on the internet, and hopefully we will find out more when we go to the hospital tomorrow. I think it is quite scary how much we can find out about our babies these days, before they are born!!
