Honeymoon when 4 months pregnant?

Hi everyone,
First time posting, so hope i'm doing this right...
Have just found out I'm about 5 weeks so I realise it is very very early days...but was just wondering if anyone had any opinion on this - am getting married in the summer and have already paid the deposit on our honeymoon to the Maldives (my first (and now probably only) opportunity of an exotic holiday), but if all goes well and my current EDD is right, then I'd be just about 20 weeks when we're due to depart. I was just wondering if this is wise- I realise there will be certain things I will have to be careful about, and you can never guarantee there will be no problems whilst away, but do you think it's do-able? Does anyone have any experience/advice? xxx

Hi. Congrats on both pg and wedding! I'd say just be mindful you will be due a scan around the 20week mark but I think in theory 20 weeks is prob a perfect time to go if you are going to. You can't travel later in pregnancy and the first 12 weeks you have to be very careful too. I'm now 24 weeks +5 and I think around the 20 week mark I was feeling pretty good physically & still am.

I would talk to MW or GP too in case you need any jabs or anything.

i went away at 14 weeks pregnant, had a great time just was more mindful when ordering food, didnt eat meat and made sure i told them to cook everything through (dh thought i was being overly careful but i wasnt the one with food poisoning on the flight home Grin ) only drink bottled water, no ice etc
have a great time make sure you discuss with mw first and tell insurance company your pg!!!

I went to the Maldives at 16 weeks was very relaxing. ONly thing was that there were so many treatments in the spa that they wouldnt let me have, I needed to be over like 18weeks... so you should be fine on that front!

Are you on a sea plane or boat transfer? Which resort you going to?

MadreInglese · 04/05/2011 16:44

I went to Egypt in Feb at about 22 weeks pregnant, it was a lovely relaxing break from work in the much-needed sunshine

Don't think I did much differently apart from no booze and steering clear of shellfish, etc

Oh, and I got some anti-DVT flight circulation sock thingies on my midwife's advice as the flight was longer than 4 hours

vickie984 · 04/05/2011 16:51

Hiya i was in the same boat, when i got married 3 years ago. I planned my wedding then found out i was pregnant. I was 4 month pregnant with my son when i got married (the dress just fitted) and i went on honeymoon, Which was oked by my midwife. i'm sure as long as you have an ok pregnancy it should be ok, speak to your midwife closer to the date.

Thank you so much for your advice everyone! It has all been so helpful, and hadn't thought at all about insurance and other such details. I think I will feel more confident in my decision to pay off the rest of the balance now knowing that people do go away at that stage of pregnancy.

Oh and smellyfeet, I think we have just got a boat transfer (which may be interesting as I do get quite sea-sick), and we are going to Meeru.

My cousin went on her honeymoon at 5 months...she had an awesome time.

edwinbear · 04/05/2011 20:44

I went to Oman when I was 6 months pregnant and had a brilliant time! 4 months will be a lovely time to go, you wont be so big as to be uncomfortable but will hopefully have got over all the ms etc. I've been to the Maldives several times and you don't need any vaccinations so you should be OK on that front. You'll have a wonderful time! I'm jealous!

crazyhead · 04/05/2011 21:42

My sister went on honeymoon last year at four months and it was absolutely fine, although I think she'd have preferred a honeymoon with more booze and being in a sexier mood. However, she has a low thyroid and pregnancy was more medicalised than it is for most.

I reckon it sort of depends on what your expectations are from a honeymoon - were you expecting to go deep sea diving, boozing and shagging? Because all but the last will definitely be compromised and you may or may not feel like sex either - you might as well consider that

However, if you are mainly keen to have a romantic break a deux before the baby comes and are happy to do gentle stuff, then go for it!

dollyshouse · 04/05/2011 21:48

I went to Hawaii when pg with DS at 6 months (4 flights there and back) and Barbados with DD when six months, no probs and you do not even need to have special insurance or anything you are pregnant so that is nothing unusual and you can fly up to 29 weeks long haul I think from memory and you can do lots of snorkelling which is fantastic in the maldives and as good as the diving and it is one of the most romantic destinations I have ever been to so it will be wonderful and you prob won't get to go again for a bit with baby so do it!!

Rhea1812 · 16/06/2018 02:48

I will b 14 weeks pregnant and we have already tickets booked for Mauritius ??is it safe to go ? Though I am having severe vomitting and nausea now , can’t even eat anything !!

BlueBug45 · 16/06/2018 06:45

If you don't have any complications and don't need any vaccinations you should be fine to go in your second trimester.

Minkies13 · 16/06/2018 07:44

I went to Spain from 19-21 weeks. It was fine. The only issue was that I missed out on the NHS anomaly scan. This is a very important scan and they couldn't rebook me in for another one. I ended up doing this scan privately and giving the results to my midwife when I saw her next.

Make sure you get insurance to cover pregnancy and take your notes with you. Enjoy!

Magpie24 · 16/06/2018 07:53

Worth checking what the zika risk is, if any.

Magpie24 · 16/06/2018 07:56

Apologies, zika risk applies to the Maldives, not sure if Mauritius is at the same risk level

birdybirdbird · 16/06/2018 08:13

@Rhea1812 I went to Mauritius at Easter when I was 14 weeks and it was fine. There is no zika risk there - though we did stay away from the crocodile park as the normal mosquitoes are apparently terrible!

BumbleNova · 16/06/2018 08:27

Just got back from our honeymoon in Mauritius, I'm 21 weeks. Absolutely no problems, there is no Zika, malaria or dengue. It was great! Enjoy.

user1483473283 · 16/06/2018 09:29

We went on honeymoon to Mauritius in February when I was 18 weeks. No zika risk to worry about!

Bibijayne · 16/06/2018 11:06

Hubbie and I went on honeymoon to Japan weeks 16 to 19 :)

Just make sure you have your notes!

Bluebirdsky · 16/06/2018 15:48

I would just check if there is any Zika Virus risk in the Maldives and if there is what the current advice is on travelling there when pregnant.

Rhea1812 · 16/06/2018 15:53

Thank u 💖

Pigeoncat · 16/06/2018 19:44

Well I’m just over 4 months and getting married next Saturday and honeymooning on Monday, so it better be alright!

Aw12345 · 16/06/2018 20:20

It's really difficult to know what sort of pregnancy you'll have... I had HG and there is no way I would have fancied a holiday around that time!

Most people are fine but you just never know :-)
