Seem to remember reading that you are meant to get a new mattress for a new baby. Anybody know if this is the case or is there a particular way of cleaning them. Ours has been unused for 3years and in storage for a lot of that.
Thanks!

I read the same but have heard conflicting advice. I was told the only reason you need a new one is because of the risk of damp etc. having got into it whilst in storage.

So I had a similar dilemma as mine had been stored for 12 months in my Mums loft. I really don't think it was damp and it was wrapped up so not dust, but in the end, for the sake of a tenner for a new one I just got one. Mainly because I just knew that if god forbid, anything did happen on the old one I would always be wondering and never forgive myself.

We used the one that had been used 3 years previously.
Had been stored in a dry place.
However, I used to put 3 moses basket sheets on top of it. (Not really sure why - perhaps to block out anything dodgy from old mattress.)

Thanks, that's what I'm thinking of doing. Know it will be fine but am a little paranoid! Wondering why I kept it....

ours was is storage while we were abroad for a year so not sure how dry it's been. seems ok but a lot of clothes and furniture came back smelling a little musty.

I just bought a new one for about £7 on amazon. They're not expensive if you are worried.

I have used the same mattress for 2 babies and it has been used for 3 other babies as well that have all been fine. It is at least 7 years old now and will be used for my next baby too.

Not trying to say that you should use your one that has been stored. I would hate to suggest that and then something awful happen. Do what you are comfortable with. If you are happy to reuse the mattress then do. If you are worried than as PP said, for the sake of a tenner, get a new one.
