can't I just use ordinary sheets?

If I cut an ordinary sheet in half, can't I just use that for the cot?
Cot bedding is so expensive - am I being a genius to use ordinary flat sheets or is there something special about cot bedding that I'm missing?

Absolutely fine.

yeah, it'll be fine if the cut edge is properly hemmed.

nothing special at all about cot bedding that i can see apart from the colours but you can dye them yourself too.

I will hem them - otherwises they'll probably fray in the wash and will be a complete waste!
Wondering why more people don't do it - or do they but they're sly about it because they're ashamed of their thriftyness?
You can probably tell I'm not - think I'm a genius haha

I think people probably don't simply because it's easier to just pick up the right size. I'd be tempted to do it myself except I'm a disaster with a needle/sewing machine and I'd probably end up with triangles or something.

If you are using/planning on a moses basket - regular pillow cases work really well as undersheets - just slip them on the matress, tuck in around the edges, and away you go!

Most of DS's bedlinen was made by Grandma out of spare full size sheets she had. Makes perfect sense to me.

Proper cot mattress duvet covers (may find on Ebay for cheap) are convenient when you get to the age they can use a duvet. I never had any other special cot bedding, even made my own bumpers.

i like to use fitted sheets as my flat sheets always come untucked. I am probably just rubbish at bed making though. Hmm

nickelbabe · 04/05/2011 14:44

yo ucan make fitted sheets - all you have to do is elasticate the corners..
