breast pumps

hey!

i am looking for some advice about whether to buy a breast pump or not. my baby is due in august and am trying to get as organised as possible in advance. i am hope to breast feed and imagine that i will want to express milk - definitely for when i go back to work and also so my partner can be more involved in caring for our baby.

i am trying to decide whether to buy a pump in advance or should i wait till our baby arrives and see how breast feeding works out. i was reading gina ford's contended little baby book and she recommends expressing straight away (unlike other breast feeding advice i have come across), so from her perspective it would be useful to have one on hand. i had a look into hiring one and they are pretty expensive to hire so think buying one isn't too extravagant.

do you think i could potentially be wasting my money buying one just now or should i just go for it?

thanks!

you can buy a manual one very cheaply at Wilkinsons at the mo. The Tomee Tippee one is perfectly fine, I used it last time I was PG. It was reduced to £13 a week or so ago and someone on here said it's come down even more so worth having I think. Apart from anything else, it allows you to relieve pressure if you are over-full and provides a way for your DP/DH to feed the baby. Not sure why you wouldn't express quite early on. Be wary of too many books, they will conflict and confuse. Much better to try and just feel your way and trust your instincts.
