I have not yet received my scan letter. I should be getting my detailed scan at 20 weeks right?
Also I have a date for my growth scan at the end of the month... does the detailed scan need to be done before the growth scan. I keep trying to get in touch with the ultrasound scan dept but they are always busy!

I don't know anything about 2 separate scans Confused
There is an "anomaly scan" at 20 weeks but I have to book that myself. I've never heard of growth scans or detailed scans.

I guess it depends where you live, are you in the UK?...

Glitzymama · 03/05/2011 12:54

I'm in the uk- Cambridgeshire
I have to have growth scans at 23 weeks because one of my blood values is low. The scan looks at the blood flow through my arteries leading to the uterus. Depending on the result I may have to go for more growth scans.
Is an anomaly scan the same as a detailed scan?
With my 12 week scan I got a letter through around 3 weeks prior to the appointment

When I had my first scan that's when I had to go to the desk and book my second scan. They never sent me a letter.

For some reason mine ended up being when I was 23+4. I didn't know it was an issue until I turned up for it and the sonographer said it was wrong of the receptionist to have booked it so late because, if there was a serious problem, I would only have had 3 days to make a decision about what to do and have a termination if necessary. Luckily DD was absolutely fine so it wasn't a problem, but that' one reason it needs to be around 20 weeks, due to legal implications of a termination.

Maybe call your GP, MW or go into the hospital or wherever they do the scan.

Well prompted by your post I phoned the hospital to book my 20 week scan (am currently 18wks) and got told off by a very rude woman for not booking it sooner!

There was nothing on the note I got (which they gave me at the 12wk scan) to tell me when I was supposed to book it, and it's my first dealings with the NHS pregnancy system, so I was a bit surprised by the attitude. She managed to squeeze me in though.

I think the detailed one might be the same as the anomally one, so I advise you call your MW or local O&G dept and find out what's going on :)

Seems to vary in different places - my hospital books it for me...

lolajane2009 · 03/05/2011 15:10

I booked mine on the way out from my 12 week scan and my one for 36 wks was booked by sonographer at 20 wk scan.

I would definitely call and check that they've got you in the system. I did this when I was approaching 12 weeks to find that they had forgotten to book me a 12 week scan....

PrincessScrumpy · 03/05/2011 17:39

I got my 20week scan date about a week after my 12w scan. I would call the hospital and chase them up.

Valiant1 · 03/05/2011 17:43

I gpot mine when i was there for my 12 week scan x i would ring and just make sure you are in the system xx

Glitzymama · 03/05/2011 19:52

Thanks everyone!
I managed to get hold of someone at the ultrasound dept and they said that I was next on the to do list and it was a good job I rang because they are so busy I might of not been able to get an appointment!

So I should of been sent a letter ages ago. My 20week scan does need to be done before my growth scan! Just goes to show you shouldn't wait around for the hospital to care of these kind of things. But I suppose there has been lots of bank holidays
