I'm getting pretty concerned that I'm not putting on any weight whatsoever and have in fact lost 6lbs. I've got a 'bump' (had it since about wk6) but it looks more like fat than a baby. It hasn't got any bigger since about wk10.

I'm 5ft 9... My appetite hasn't changed since I've been pregnant, and it's pretty small if I'm honest, but I'm not a 'thin' bodytype. I'm not sure if I'm feeling movement or not :S

I'm concerned that if I'm not growing then how can the baby be growing? What if it isn't?

this is me every pregnancy i have had.

I am now 38 weeks pregnant and weigh less now than i did at my booking in appointment. I lost 3 stone in the first 16 weeks and have not gained any weight.
It also happened with my other 2 pregnancies too.

My baby is estimated at 8lb plus already and I DO look very pregnant lol

bemybebe · 03/05/2011 10:48

I am 19 weeks today, with a very noticeable bump and put only 1kg (169cm, 68kg). Was told all is normal.

heksie · 03/05/2011 10:48

I hate both of you! Smile
Well done for being able to remain balanced and not getting on the pregnancy eating train, if you are eating properly and your midwife says the baby is growing, carry on!

bemybebe · 03/05/2011 10:50

Ah, I am also measuring 4 days ahead... MW and sonographer are all very happy with the progress...

You should not be concerned unless your MW/etc voiced concerns. Why don't you ask her at the next appointment? Or the sonographer at the 20 week scan?

KatieWatie · 03/05/2011 11:01

Thanks all - my next appt is the 20wk scan... it seems a long time since my 16wk appt when everything seemed fine. I'm now dreading the scan in case they tell me the baby died? Would I know if it died? (Sorry to be so negative). I wish there was some way of knowing that all is well in between appts.

I'm fretting I suppose because there's no real signs of being pregnant, other than a lot of water retention or whatever it is sticking out over my jeans...

katie, i thought the same as your before my 20wk scan, I just looked like I had eaten too many cakes, then I felt a kick for the first time a few days before :)

am 24 weeks now and do have a little bump, I weigh the same as I have done for the past 4 years, and in certain clothes I don't look pregnant at all. I see pictures of friends who are at/were at same stage as me and they are all SO much bigger....am 5'8 too, so maybe that is why? I think I have got wider more than anything

jasmine51 · 03/05/2011 11:15

Katie can you afford a private scan? or what about hiring a doppler to check for a heartbeat? Both kept me sane in those difficult earlier weeks between apts x

bemybebe · 03/05/2011 11:32

I haven't tried it, but my hospital pregnancy unit (not "early" PU, but the one you go to after 14weeks) can accept urgent cases if there are concerns.

That said, I do not feel any kicking yet and I am worried sick myself (even have nasty dreams about loosing the baby), so i also cannot wait til my 20 week scan next Monday. The problem is that if you feel ok yourself (no high BP, temperature, bleeding etc) there is nothing anybody can do if things go wrong... shitty as it is. Or am I wrong?

BelieveInLife · 03/05/2011 11:42

I really wouldn't worry, this has been my situation with both pregnancies and now at 34 weeks I've only put on 7lbs.

Octbaby · 03/05/2011 17:55

hi Katie, I am just like you, worried about if I had a missed miscarriage etc - I bought a sonoline fetal doppler so listen to heartbeat every night, it is a real reassurance

I am 17 weeks today and put on about 4lbs so far, but i have just been on an all inclusive holiday so think it was more food than anything else!

I don't want to get really big, how much weight should you put on my the 3rd trimester? i am normally size 8/10 and 5ft 4

Valiant1 · 03/05/2011 17:58

I am the same Katie i am 19 weeks tomorrow and have lost one and half stone and have no bump. i have recently found the food train thought so am expecting to put it all back on !!!

KatieWatie · 03/05/2011 18:20

Thanks all, it's good to know I'm not alone.

I considered getting a doppler but then I read (on here) about how they can sometimes be difficult to pick up the heartbeat which makes an anxious person fret even more. I don't want to open myself up to this, even though I'm sorely tempted to get one!

bemybebe my thoughts exactly - I'm fine physically at the moment so I really have no reason to worry or doubt, other than lack of symptoms! It's a bit Catch22.
