Sugar/Protein in urine

I realise this is probably a stupid question Blush, but is having sugar in your urine the same as having protein in your urine, or are they 2 different things?

The reason I ask is I was reading about symptoms of preeclampsia and want to find out a bit more.

Thanks!

Sugar is different to protein. It can be (occasionally) normal to have a small amount of sugar present, but high consistent levels could indicate gestational diabetes.

...and protein in urine can be a marker for pre eclampsia...although like sugar it is quite normal to have a trace in your urine without anyone getting worried. if you look in your Mat notes you will probably see two columns - one for glucose and one for protein

Protein is a marker for Preeclampsia. Glucose is a marker for gestational diabeties. You are allowed a trace of either before anyone starts to worry, but at +1 (or more) of either then more detailed checks should be done.
