Belly button jewellery to remove or not to remove, and when?

I have read somewhere that you don't have to take piercings out, but I always thought you did? Just wondered what people on here think?

Hey I took my belly button piercing out for first scan as had to and just kept it out. Will get it redone when stomach is back to decent shape lol x

My midwife was adamant that my belly ring had to come out as she'd seen some nasty tears. She was happy that I swapped it for a special maternity bar which is plastic and flexible. I did this at about 24 weeks and it's been fine (I'm now 38 weeks).

I took mine out at my second scan and left it out from then. I did get a strechmark on the little bit of skin between the holes and one leading up my belly from it, but now they have faded its not visable anymore.

I took mine out a couple of days before my second scan, and then left them out from there.
