Still really tired in the second trimester

I was under the impression that the tiredness eased off a bit when you hit the 2nd trimester - I'm now 17 weeks - but I'm still so bloody knackered!
I'm sleeping well, I only have a very easy part-time job, and my DD is at school, so I should be finding things a doddle!
I'm beginning to suspect that it's because I'm 39, and I'm going to feel this pg alot more than my first....also, I'm not exercising, so maybe that will help increase my energy levels.
Any handy hints, ladies? Or anybody else in the same boat?
Other than this, I am very happy to be pg, and generally enjoying the process....

I was knackered 2nd time round from start to finish. I felt 100x better when DD2 was born. AND I was younger than you, 30. My advice would be just to rest as much as possible, and hopefully you'll feel better when the baby arrives, as I did.

Have you had a blood test for anemia? Might be worth thinking about taking a gentle iron supplement like spatone which will top up your iron levels, in case it's that.

lolajane2009 · 29/04/2011 16:21

i'm not anaemic and completely exhausted still at 20 weeks. Although when I do try to sleep I cant and during the day I fight to stay awake.

Neither last pregnancy nor this one have I experienced this alleged second trimester energy surge. Just to let you know you're not alone...

glitternanny · 29/04/2011 16:51

My oh asked me today how I can be so tired in the first 12 weeks!

Hope you feel better soon!

lolajane2009 · 29/04/2011 16:58

my sister in law said hers never came so I expect to be exhausted all the way along tbh.

FrettyBetty · 29/04/2011 17:19

Just woke up from an afternoon nap. 21 weeks. Makes me feel quilty about all those times when I am working hard and no time for even a long night's sleep...

MrsVidic · 29/04/2011 17:47

26 weeks and still bloody knackered! Not anemic, get regular excersize and im only 28! I do have a toddler though!

lovemysleep · 29/04/2011 21:29

Thanks, ladies.....perfectly normal then! Slept in til 8.30 this morning, and still fell asleep on the sofa at 2.30. It's obviously hard work making limbs and organs Grin.
Strangely enough, I was away on holiday last week, and we were out all day doing stuff and I didn't feel as knackered. Think it's the 2 days back at school, getting up at 7am that have done me in....Should be fun dealing with a newborn in October....(gulp)

I felt very tired and nauseous till about 19 weeks. Am feeling much better now (currently 22 + 5.) Hope you feel better soon.

FluffyDonkey · 30/04/2011 09:08

I'm 18 weeks and still shattered. Depends on the day, but somedays I crawl through the day in a fog. I too am waiting for the magic second trimester energy burst!

Problem for me is that working full time during the week takes all my energy and the weekend I just can't face doing anything. DH and I are in for a long boring 9 months!!! Grin

brightcopperkettles · 30/04/2011 11:29

I'm coming up to 16 weeks and so exhausted. I don't remember feeling this bone-tired with DD (she's 15 months so it wasn't even that long ago!). I look forward to 8.30 pm every night when I feel like it's a respectable enough time to go to bed whilst still spending some time with DH. I am hanging out for the supposed 2nd trimester energy hit!

Ufimc · 03/02/2020 08:41

I'm 35 years old, pregnant with my fourth child, absolutely exhausted all the time, can barely manage normal daily tasks. Can't wait to get baby out n get back to normal.

Nelbert19 · 03/02/2020 08:49

I had the second trimester energy burst! It lasted 4 days 🙄

Lovely while it lasted, but then I was dumped straight back into my hyperemesis joy.

I can’t even manage to get dressed most days, never mind housework, leaving the house or my actual job. Screw the energy burst, just a vague semblance of a life would be great!

Supernoodle67 · 10/09/2020 14:41

I’m currently 15 weeks with baby number 1 and the tiredness is getting worse, not helping I’m sure I work 50-60 hours a week in a mentally demanding job, literally only working and sleeping at the moment and would love the chance to add a midday nap or two

Babyboomtastic · 10/09/2020 14:46

It's a myth that keeps you going during the gloomy first trimester, and by the time you realise it's not happening, you are realising you're well in the way to the third trimester and the end starts coming into sight.

Superscientist · 10/09/2020 14:50

I had fatigue throughout my 2nd trimester, I had a little bit more energy in the 3rd trimester and even had 3 day of pregnancy glow at ~35 weeks then the fatigue returned.

I think I had more energy in the 3rd trimester because I put less expectations on myself to have energy and probably adjusted my expectations to my energy levels.
