Are these braxton hicks?

I never had them with my other 2 pregnancies but the past few days I have been having period like pains just above my pubic bone. They don't come in waves and they don't get stronger, but they do hurt! They aren't going across my bump or near my back so wondering if these are braxton hicks or not. I have been having them more today with more or less continuous pain for 20 minutes or so and then disappearing for a few hours. Currently I've been up for just over half an hour with them as they don't seem to be going :(

Thanks Annie. My bump is pretty hard anyway (I'm growing a small elephant ) so hard to tell. I'm off to have a bath and see if that eases them . . . here's hoping I don't wake the children up!
