I've seen my MW for the first time today.
She offered a nuchal fold scan between 11 & 13+6wks and then said about a dating scan. We said we'd like both. Now will this happen as she said the nuchal fold is just a screening. I came out a tad confused and forgot to clarify!

Thanks

they do both at the same time, they just make sure your dating scan is between those times. When they do the dating scan, they then measure that bit at the back of the neck, and then your bloods have the extra tests too (if you're getting the tests for downs etc)

Yup all at the same time. You'll have a normal dating scan during which they'll measure the nuchal fold. You'll then go for bloods on the same day. Make sure they remember to weigh you as part of the bloods!

Ahh okay thanks ladies - got really confused - which don't take much lol.

We signed something to test for DS. said something about 1 in 150 is considered a high risk for downs. 1 in a millon is not high risk.

Make sure you chase them to get an appointment in good time - you need it closer to 11/12 weeks than 13. Then if they move your dates forward you will still be in the window for the nuchal fold tests. Doesn't matter if it is just a day out, in my area it is an absolute cut off, they will not process the bloods or complete the test past 13+6. We were nearly caught out by this.

VJ Thanks according to the MW they are normally pretty fast at getting you in. Just have to wait and see now.
