Hi, Im getting brown spotting but with no other pain, (maybe a little back ache). when I phoned up the midwives they just say to rest, and not to worry. How can I not worry?
Anyone else had that and all been fine? My first scan is not until week 13 so have ages to wait for proper reassurance.

I had brown spotting on and off for the first few weeks and then much more at 11 weeks. It turned out it was just a burst blood vessel or something like that which they were able to show me on a scan. The spotting then stopped soon after and all has been fine ever since (I'm nearly 30 weeks now). It is very common and if you don't have any pain too it's probably fine, but to be on the safe side you could ring your doctors surgery, ask them to give you a ring back and then explain what is happening and they should be able to refer you for a scan. That's what I did anyway though I don't know if it's different in different areas. Hope it's all ok for you xx

I had brown spotting throughout the first trimester for all 3 of my pregs... no idea what it was, but so far have had 2 healthy babies and currently 15 weeks with 3rd....
I also had cramping (like a period was going to start) & back ache during 1st trimester of all 3 pregnancies...in fact, I still get twinges and cramps now at 15 weeks.. again, this seems pretty common with lots of pregnancies so nothing to worry about.

If it changes to red blood and / or you get more severe cramping, then call your dr / midwife / local early preg unit to get it checked out. Otherwise, best advice is as your midwife said... relax and dont worry (I know, that is easier said than done!!). xx

Can someone explain clearly what they mean but brown 'spotting'. I'm 15 weeks and just found browny blood about the size of a two pound coin in my knickers, very scared and waiting for midwife to arrive.

Reasure me please or any advice would be great.

I had brown blood for a week at week 11, I was terrified because of a mmc previoulsy - had cramping too. Looking back the cramping must have been stretching and it was confirmed at my 12 week scan that the bleeding was caused by a low lying placenta.

When I did have the mmc I had no blood at all, and severe cramping.

Hope all goes well x

I had brown spotting on and off from week 7 to week 13 when I passed a large red clot and the bleeding stopped (I'm now 26 weeks). Personally, I wouldn't be able to wait until week 13 for a scan so you could go to your GP and ask for a referral to your local EPU (early pregnancy unit). Bleeding during pregnancy is scary so I'd try and get it checked out just for your peace of mind.

Thanks for the advice and sorry for the highjack, midwife just popped by and all is well.

WrensNest I'm sure everything will be fine.

Hi, all the hospital said was wait until the scan. its all a bit agonising but am thankful for all your advice and experience that this is quite normal!
