So I apologise for a very self absorbed thread but this is really starting to get me down ..... I am 12 weeks pregnant and my skin is full of angry red spots - basically like teenage acne. I look after my skin and its always been relatively good (few hormonal spots just before period but nothing major). Im guessing this is just as a consequence of the hormones raging through my body but is there anything i can do? If i went to a dermatologist could he even give me anything? Or do i just need to sit it out and hope it calms down? Thanks all for your help and again, I know its vain but i dont like looking in the mirror right now ...

I feel your pain.

I've been the same with big angry red spots around chin. What I find really works is Liz Earle spot on...it's a little roller ball full of natural oils etc and it dries the spots out super quick. You can buy it online.

I'm the same but thankfully (and bizarrely) the spots are on my shoulders, top of my arms and neck. Not places I normally get occasional spots.

FoxyRevenger · 26/04/2011 10:05

Oh I was like this too - all over my face, my neck, under my ears and across my chest. Pretty!! It went away towards the end I think but nothing the GP gave me did anything. Sorry. Sad

I was the same the minute I got pregnant - I tried a bunch of acne creams which just made it worse. Having a mild cleanser and then a good quality moisturizer (i used Neutrogena) definitely helped. But really it is just a waiting game, as its all due to the hormones. My acne eventually went fully away by 20 weeks...

PoppysMom · 26/04/2011 10:33

I am exactly the same :(
Nothing seems to help with them and they are around a hundred times worse than whilst I was on the pill.

Please don't despair - I had this exact same problem after having really clear skin. It's horrible and it really gets you down. I tried a few non-prescription things (like Clinique anti acne moisturisers etc) with very little success. The only thing that worked was a topical antibiotic that my Dr prescribed which was safe to use during pregnancy - zineryt. It really improved my skin, and while the problem did not completely go away it made it manageable. I'm now 38 weeks and have had no spots for about two months (and I'm no longer using the zineryt). Hang in there, it will get better as you settle into your pregnancy.

I've got it too and it's horrible. I am lucky and have never had bad skin. So much for preganancy glow!

MsChanandlerBong · 26/04/2011 17:28

I've got it aswell - exactly the same skin condition as when I was c15 years old (plus a few wrinkles I guess!).

When people say I am 'glowing' I have a bit of a giggle to myself and think "so would you if you have 4 layers of make up on!!"

Zipitydoda · 26/04/2011 22:13

I have found the Vichy Norma derm products good ( from some boots stores) - not harsh on my skin and calmed down the painful acne. I was also prescribed zineryt but it made my skin peel and was too harsh.

apricotears · 26/04/2011 22:25

I do feel sorry for you, because I am experiencing the exact same thing. 22 weeks now and showing no signs of getting better. I have tried lots of things and nothing has worked, so have resigned myself to the fact that this is probably going to be the norm for me during the pregnancy.

I am just trying to look at the bright side, aside from this I feel pretty damn good; so nothing to complain about really Smile

lkane0 · 04/05/2011 10:27

I've got the same problem. Is it safe to use acne treatments like clearasil while pregnant?

Xiaoxiong · 04/05/2011 14:31

And me, I look like a 14 year old again! Posted a moan on the Dec due date thread about this the other day. Neutrogena's Wave was suggested so I went and got that, as well as a Boots "SkinClear" range cleanser with salicylic acid in it. (I hope this is ok, it's not a very strong solution and I figured I would be ok as long as I wasn't drinking it neat, but will ask the midwife about it when I see her next week).

No improvement yet...but it's only been 2 days so far, can't hope for any miracles. Just like apricot, I feel that if this and my everlasting expanding thighs and arse are my two biggest pregnancy problems, I have no right to complain...
