Morning Sickness - When does it end?

Hi everyone,
I'm 9 weeks into my first pregnancy and have horrible nausea 24/7, although I'm not actually getting sick. I know some women have it far worse and am trying not to moan, but would love to know when if there's any hope of it easing a bit soon. I've heard that it usually goes away in the 12th to 14th week, but am wondering what people's experiences have been.

mine went in my 11th week.

RitaMorgan · 25/04/2011 13:39

16 weeks for me.

vickibee · 25/04/2011 13:41

Mine never went, I was sick morning, noon and night for the whole nine months. As soon as DS was born I stopped being sick and was over a stone lighter than pre-pregnancy

MollysChambers · 25/04/2011 13:55

Around 16 weeks for me too. 'Tis grim.

Schmaffy · 25/04/2011 13:59

Poor you - utterly horrible. Mine went at about 20 weeks. As I kept saying - it will all be worth it in the end!

Blobby11 · 25/04/2011 14:09

16 weeks for me. Sorry!

4pudding · 25/04/2011 14:23

17 weeks first time, 10 weeks second.

MrsDmitriTippensKrushnic · 25/04/2011 14:27

With the DSs at around 16 weeks, with DD, until I gave birth...

jobrien1980 · 25/04/2011 14:32

Thanks everyone. I'm hoping for 10 weeks rather than 16 :-)

Hi Jo I'm 10 weeks and have been sick every day for the last 5 weeks so am also hoping it stops soon! My sister was sick for 16 weeks and a work colleague (they don't know I'm pg) is still being sick at 26 weeks Shock

Just wanted to commiserate with you and shate your wishes that 12 weeks is the magic number Grin

stripeywoollenhat · 25/04/2011 15:18

13 weeks last time for me; this time i've been sick since 4.5 weeks and am now 8 weeks, praying that it'll be shorter this time. i totally forgot how vile early pregnancy is, and am never doing it again.

MummyAbroad · 25/04/2011 15:21

There is hope! Mine disappeared almost over night at 9 and a half weeks (which is around when the placenta takes over). From 6-9 weeks I was feeling so bad I couldnt function - I took anti nausea tablets which prevented vomiting but not the sick feeling - then voila! All over. I had a scan 2 days later just to check all was all right and babe is measuring fine for dates and has a healthy heartbeat.

Hope you get lucky like I did Smile

16 weeks with DS
Now 35 weeks with DD and still puke if I don't take my anti puke drug metaclopramide.

Badgerwife · 25/04/2011 17:58

I was just like you i.e. not being sick but with nausea 24/7 , and it lasted a month and a bit from about week 7. I was off work for 4 weeks (well 2 weeks and then it was the Christmas holidays, which I had booked off anyway). Of the 4 weeks I was off (no way was I getting on a train and the tube with a sick bag, no one would have thanked me), 2 were truly horrendous (bed ridden, couldn't cope with any smell or food, lost half a stone), 2 were mildly horrendous (I had a bit of turkey at xmas!) and then I went back to work after the hols and only felt a bit iffy for a couple of weeks. Since I have felt great. So I was fully well by week 14. Now 27+3 and no sign of sickness (phew).
Everyone's different though, and I know I am lucky to not have suffered too much, as it's the worst thing that's happened so far (although heartburn isn't fun either).

thell · 25/04/2011 18:10

Both times it's faded about 20 weeks, but I didn't have it horrendously.
It really is truly vile, but if it does fade it will seem like a distant memory once you've got a lovely big bump.
Good luck with the rest of the preg. - hope it's nice and easy :)

curleywurley2 · 25/04/2011 18:16

Totally with you huni, im 11 weeks with my 2nd and didnt suffer at all with morning sickness with my 1st but this time round im as sick as a dog!!! ginger biscuits help but i think that ive eaten soooo many that think the baby will be ginger haha!
Got to admit though its better to have morning sickness, than thrush and cystitis which is what i had constant through out my 1st pregnancy!! just remember that all the morning sickness and pregnancy pains are all worth it, i hate to say it but the pregnancy is the easy bit haha its the next 18years of bringing them up thats the hard part haha!! Good luck huni and hope you feel better soon.

candr · 25/04/2011 20:00

was 12 weeks on the dot and now I eat anything that crosses my path, was so sick for first 3 months though that I love the fact I am not being sick at smells and thoughts anymore - hope this is the same for you but I have real sympathy for those who have it throughout x

Bubalie · 25/04/2011 20:01

I was sick from week 5 all the way through to around week 14, when it stopped and I felt 'normal' again. I am now 16+3 and have been in bed for the past 2 days! My morning sickness seems to have come back worse than ever!! Anyone else had this? I just hope it goes away soon, I am so fed up of it :(

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 25/04/2011 20:02

Sorry to disappoint, but am 37 weeks with my 2nd and still got it. Had it all the way through with DD too. Be prepared to feel sick the whole way through, then its just a thing to smile about if yours does go early :)

nannyl · 25/04/2011 21:14

i had it really Bad.... Had HG and ended up in hospital.

weeks 6 - 13 were horendous.... had 7 weeks in bed feeling like death
weeks 13 - 16 were a bit better... made it out of bed most days and had a few hours a day not feeling really poorly

now 20 weeks.... this past month or so im being sick every 2nd / 3rd day, and normally feel better about half hour later so much much more liveable and manageable.

i think 16 weeks was the real turning point for me. (though im still on anti-sick tabs and if i leave the gap between them too long i go down ill fast)

good luck

firsttimer84 · 25/04/2011 21:30

15 and half weeks i thought How do people do this more than once!!!! Then 16 weeks arrived and nothing! My mum suffered all the way through though with me. Now i cant even remember feeling bad with it, enjoying the bump! (im 19 weeks now)

FluffyDonkey · 26/04/2011 09:22

16 weeks for me (fingers crossed cos I'm 17 weeks so it could easily attack again!), although vomiting reduced from 5 times a day to once a day from 14 weeks.

My advice is do not hope to feel better on the dot at 12 weeks. I really hoped for that and felt worse when nothing changed.
