Cleaning a third hand baby gym mat

I've been very kindly lent a baby gym mat - padded, bright colours, etc that they lie on and play with the toys hanging overhead. It's been in a loft for at least 3 years and previously to that was secondhand. It's in really good condition but I'd like to freshen it up a bit. It won't fit in washing machine so do you think it would be ok if I put it in the bath? Should I just use soapy water or put some milton in there as well? Will the milton bleach the colours? Confused

Could you take it to a laundrette? They have bigger machines. No idea about the Milton but I think there is an anti bacterial product on the Market that begins with an S, the name escapes me, those that use reusable nappies will know I'm sure :)

If you're going to wash it in the bath you need special handwash stuff - there are loads of brands. Don't use milton! It will be fine, it doesn't need bleaching, a normal decently hot wash anti-bacs without needing any special chemicals.

Shame it won't fit in the machine, though. You'll probably need two people to ring out something like that before you can put it on the line.

What about steam cleaning it? Either with one of those steam cleaner thingys from JML or even a wallpaper stripper steamer if you have one.
