Bleeding again, fourth time, should I go to EPAU or not??

Original story

here.

Since then I've had two more bleeds, and had another emergency scan (10 days ago) and my nuchal scan (5 days ago). All fine, and noone has any clue why the bleeds are happening. Oh and I'm 14 weeks tomorrow (nuchal dated me one week further on than I though)

We got home today at 3pm and I went to the loo and more bleeding, bloody hell. It's bright red, and slighty clotty. I though it'd stopped when I called the EPAU at 5pm for advice. They said it was my choice whether to go in or not, bit if it got heavier than a period then I should go.

As a coincidence a midwife has just called about my 16 weeks apt. I asked her advice and she said then only way to know how things are is if I went to EPAU and had a scan. I said they would give me an internal, not a scan. She said she wouldn't do an internal this early, and when I said I'd had three already she said, half jokingly, maybe that's why you're bleeding?!!!!.

When I went in with the decond bleed the doc told me not to come back unless I bled heavily with clots and had severe stomach pains. That's not the case at the moment but it's been going on for 6 hours now and I'm really not sure what to do.

It's late, I'll have to go via A&E so soooooo not good on a sat night, and I'd have to go alone as DS is in bed. I'm a little annoyed with DH as earlier I ssugested he see if his mum (who's an hour away and most likely drunk now....) could take DS for the night just in case. He said no, let's just wait and see. Fume!!!

I personally would wait till the morning - look, in all likelihood everything is absolutely fine and you are just bleeding - I did in my second pregnancy and there was not rhyme nor reason for it - and it just stopped and DS was fine.

If you don't have cramps and it's not too heavy I'd wait. There is bugger all that can be done if you are miscarrying (sorry if that's blunt but it is true unfortunately), but it's much, much more likely you have an irritated cervix or are just prone to bleeding during pregnancy.

If you are still bleeding tomorrow you can try the EPAU but it'll probably have abated by then. Good luck :)

No you're right, there isn't anything I can do it the worst is happening, I've been thinking the same thing. And the midwife has made me think, do I really want another internal.

I think as it's happened so much already and all has been fine, I ride this out. That's in the assumption that is this is a miscarriage, then it woun't stop, will start to get painful and of course I'll go to hospital then.

I hate the thought of having to wait 6 weeks for my next scan though. At least before the first scan wasn't too far ahead...

I bled on and off through both my pregnancys, it was only after the 5th bleed with dd2 that they found out what it was (cervix erossion) and baby was fine, i did have to keep going in for anti-d jabs though as i am B-.

Icoulddoitbetter · 23/04/2011 21:43

That's interesting Marne as I'm R- too. I had an anti d 10 days ago and have been told twice now (today when I called and after another minor bleed last week) that they won't give me any more anti d jabs. It's pretty hard to find stuff on the internet as NICE guidelines are not about "sensitising" incidents, but I did find something that said it was good practice that if you experience intermitent bleeding they should do anti d every 6 weeks.
So I'm really quite worried about that actually.

Anti-d lasts about 3 to 4 weeks. I'm 18w pg with id twins and have had 3 bleeds. The last was brown and I was told I have an inflammed cervix and mustn't have sex (poor dh - and me, I miss it too). They said only go back if I have bright red bleed.

I think in your situation I would rest lots and go in the morning. Good luck x

Icoulddoitbetter · 23/04/2011 23:17

Thanks princess. Do you know how I can insist on another anti d as at the moment I'm being told there'll be no more for this pregnancy?

I'm also banned from sex, most annoying on those rare occasions when the nausea has faded and there's nothing going on down there and I'm in the mood!

Good morning Icoulddoitbetter, I hope the bleeding has settled. How are you?
[Has anyone suggested inflamed/ectropia/erosion of cervix after your internals? Mine was easy to see and caused on and off harmless bleeding.]
Things always happen on bank hols eh,
Good luck.

Marne · 25/04/2011 19:40

Icould- your Gp should give anti-d anyway to all A, B and O negs twice during pregnancy (they just started doing this when i was at the end of my 2nd pregnancy, not 100% sure they still do it) so maybe ask your GP, i was given it every 4-6 weeks whilst pg with dd2 but TBH it was a waste of time as both my dd's were the same blood group as me Smile, i wouldn't worry too much as its highly likely that it is a cervix problem and the baby wont come into contact with the bleed anyway.

crazyhead · 26/04/2011 08:35

Hmm I'm a bleeder and B neg too, wonder if it is more common?

Last time I bled, EPAU told me to come in if it worsened, or if it was 'doing my head in'. Anyway after a bit, it did indeed do my head, so I went in.

Good luck with today. How come EPAU are doing internals? They did transabdominal scans for me and I'm earlier than you. Could you ask them just to a TA scan so you just get a bit of reassurance instead of having to wait for six weeks?

Good luck. So stressful....

Hi all, sorry was with family all weekend so no chance to come back!

After lots of discussion we didn't go to the hospital in the end. The bleeding stopped on sunday morning, with just the teeniest bit throughout that day, then some dark brown blood yesterday and nothing today. I only had very mild cramps and decided that if the worst was happening, it would get worse, not stop. Had there been more than one doctor on duty for the whole of the gynae service over the easter weekend I may have decided differently but there you go!

2boys I've had three internals and they've made no comment about my cervix other that it being closed. I suppose if I have another then they may see more but I'm hoping t avoid that!

crazy at our EPAU they do an internal as part of the first exam, and then a scan after if they think it's necessary. The scan is never the same day though, I've had mine 4 days and one day after I went in. It seems that all the scans are done via an apt unless the internal shows that there is a real reason for concern ie the cervix is opening.
Re: being Rh neg, the doc I saw the second time I bled did say "that could explain it" when I told him I was neg, but couldn't explain why....

I've got a mw apt in three weeks so hopefully we'll hear the heartbeat then and I'll be reassured. And if anything happens before then I'll go to the EPAU again.

And, I'm going to insist on another anti d if I bleed again more than 6 weeks after my last jab was given.
