Anyone else struggling with names?

38 weeks and know we are having a girl but still don't have any names we like. Everything we've come up with has been a bit 'meh' so far.

Anyone else in the same boat?

I am convinced I will have a boy and CAN NOT think of a name - my dad is trying hard to 'help' - his suggestions so far are:

Randy Robinson
Roger Robinson
Dangerfield Robinson
Sebastain-Tarquin Robinson

God help me!!!!!

There is a forum dedicated to baby names :)

happywheezer · 22/04/2011 16:18

Everything I like my husnband disagrees so we are at a stalemate.
Naming baby's is hard!
Especially when you don't get your own way!

OMG, that is hilarious! Bless him for keeping you laughing though, even if not very helpful

lolajane2009 · 22/04/2011 16:26

Jill72 · 22/04/2011 16:32

You may laugh at that one!! My uncle is called Rodrick Robinson and his family all call him Robin!!!!! lol!

I really like Jack but I am Jill!!!! boo hoo!

If it's a boy the poor thing will be doomed Dooooooomed!!

lolajane2009 · 22/04/2011 16:40

our surname is george so i can hardly talk. so tempting to do george george for simplicity.

ShazGJ · 22/04/2011 21:11

I got some good suggestions from the name genie website, it suggests first and middle names that go with your surname.

Jill72 · 22/04/2011 21:16

George George !!! go for it!!

Jellyrollgumdrop · 22/04/2011 22:27

Im 36 weeks & DH & I cant agree on a name yet, we dont know what we are having....this naming business is soooo hard.....

Bogeyface · 22/04/2011 23:04

We are the same, we have a handful of names that we think are "ok" but nothing that has said "Yes, thats it, thats the name we want"

I rather think we will be the people who have "baby X" until the day before the registration deadline and then will just pick something out of the blue :o

Bogeyface · 22/04/2011 23:06

And according to babynamegenie, we should call her "Treasure Aaliyah"

ERmmmm....nooooo dont think so actually!

lolajane2009 · 22/04/2011 23:22

nah, we are using grandparent names for either boys or girls,

paternal paternal grandparents followed by maternal maternal grandparent names.

hubby vetoed george george although our asda socks have baby george written on them lol

HipHopOpotomus · 23/04/2011 00:34

Baby due any day now we don't know what we are having and DP won't discuss names (. He's very anxious re birth etc).

Ah well guess it will all work out >

4pudding · 23/04/2011 08:31

Glad it's not just me. Feels like such a responsibility. Really enjoyed it with dd1, not sure why it's so difficult this time round.

ButterflySally · 23/04/2011 08:43

After ages of coming across 'meh' names, we now finally have a name which is perfect (family name on both sides of the family, DP and I both like it and agree on it, it suits a little baby/boy as well as a grown man, it's good solid name). However, the downside is that now we're so paranoid that someone else will name their child the same name before ours is born (we have some friends and family who are expecting). At least if we were still toying with a few options we'd have something to fall back on...

Pootletrinket · 23/04/2011 09:05

Hmmm, baby genie suggested "Jarrett Alex" or "Drew Veronica"!

DD was easy (was my choice!!) but this second one we're struggling to get agreement on (DH and I, DD and I have lots of common ideas!)

Jill72 · 23/04/2011 09:19

At the moment I am just calling it which ever fruit it is supposed to be according to my IPhone app - Babyfruit. It tells you what fruit it is equivalent to each week - so Lemon will become Orange tomorrow ( 15 weeks). I am also then trying to eat more of that fruit that week to help keep up with my 5 a day!!! Can't wait for watermelon!!!!

dizzy77 · 23/04/2011 09:57

Jill72 our iphone app comes up with a fruit/vegetable each week. A bit hairy at 33-34 weeks approx when it seemed to be mostly "Cabbage". Good luck for the family!

We are telling people we have a shortlist whereas we only really have one viable option we agree on. This is starting to make me anxious - what if the baby looks like someone else?

Jill72 · 23/04/2011 10:05

Cabbage !! love it!! Think of all that soup you could have!! lol!!

Bogeyface · 23/04/2011 10:09

Dizzy, we had this with dd2. We had her name all picked out beforehand and told the hospital when she was born. But the more I looked at her the more it didnt suit her, and when DH came back the next day he agreed, and we named her something that we hadnt really considered in our shortlist but suited her perfectly. I am hoping for similar inspiration this time!

If your chosen name isnt right then you will know, and I am sure you will know equally well what is the right one :)

Pootletrinket · 23/04/2011 10:10

dizzy our baby didn't look like anything other than 'baby' but we stuck to the name chosen and she 'grew' into it, calling her by her name felt weird for the first few weeks!!!

4pudding · 23/04/2011 10:38

I remember we called dd1 by her silly bump name for months after as we'd got so used to it, that her real name sounded odd. This one hasnt had a bump name, just referred to as 'it' or 'the baby', poor thing!

Been doing the family tree and found some really cool names so I think I'm going to stick with something which traditionally runs through the family. OH needs to understand that I will be choosing the name haha... If bean is a boy than I'm going to give him two middle names, my grandfather died 6months ago and had a really interesting middle name which he shared with my dad so that will be a definate for a boy bean. A girl bean will be much harder!

growing3rdbump · 23/04/2011 11:28

DH and I can't agree on any names - has really been stressing me out!

He has made no decent contributions and doesn't like the one 'perfect' name for DC3 that I love...

Really hoping I get my own way when little one arrives, or there's going to be some serious discussions going on!
