Stupid Q - have my waters just broken?!

Having just tried to arrange second attempt at sweep, went for a pre-walk wee and, at the end, while wiping (sorry TMI) felt a dribble more come out; thought - that's odd, thought I'd finished - then quite a lot more liquid came out (more than a wee, landed faster in the bowl, seemed odourless from what went on my hand)......

Left message for MW because at last palpation (Tues) head was still free and they impressed upon me the importance of getting checked out if waters break without contractions.

So should I go up there, continue with walk? Will there be more leakage?!

TIA!

put on a pad and lie on your side for 20 minutes. If it's your waters, it will gush when you stand up. (it gathers at the side for some reason)

katherine2008 · 21/04/2011 12:12

sounds like it to me! good luck!

candr · 21/04/2011 12:14

My neighbour had that and it just kept leaking out like a constant wee as the body keeps producing it, if it is still going in a short while then I would guess yes, so congrats and good luck for the next bit. x

mousymouse · 21/04/2011 12:15

agree with jenny. and then sniff the wet pad. the waters smell of "baby" a distinctive smell.
if it is the waters and it only dribbles it can go on for a long time.
hope cx start soon to bring you close to your baby! good luck.

Might be worth going to get checked out. But if it is and all is ok, come home if you can till contractions are established.

Go and get checked out, they won't think you're silly honest. And it does sound like your waters, to me at least.

With DD I went in after wetting myself once, because I didn't realise! They were honestly really nice about it.

Bogeyface · 21/04/2011 12:39

Yep, definetely sounds like your waters to me. I wasnt sure when mine went the first time I gave birth and realised what it was when "holding" what I thought was wee didnt work and it just kept coming,

Your waters breaking is a good sign that your body is ready for labour too, good luck :)

sheeplikessleep · 21/04/2011 12:40

Sounds like it. My waters went before contractions with both DSs for me. Initially, it felt like I was weeing, but I couldn't stop it. I sat on loo, thought it had finished, soon as I got up, it kept coming out. It definitely came out more, every time I moved.

Bogeyface · 21/04/2011 12:49

I have just remembered too that if I coughed or moved from sitting to standing even after only a minute, there would be another gush.

Rosa · 21/04/2011 13:03

Mine went like that ....never had a gush....Go get checked out I lost both waters without contractions DD1 arr 18 hrs later DD2 4 hrs later after a 38 minute labour

thefirstMrsDeVere · 21/04/2011 13:09

I have had 4 birth children and by the time I had my DC5 I still wouldnt have had a clue about waters breaking.

I felt a right numpty but mine only ever break when the baby is about to be born.

LaWeasel · 21/04/2011 13:12

When DDs did go it was textbook classic, 2 contractions, pop and bed flooded "er, I think I'm in labour" run off to hospital.

I don't think that's very usual!

Leilababyno1 · 21/04/2011 13:47

Good-luck Pootle- sounds very promising!

missnevermind · 21/04/2011 14:08

MrsDeVere - I was about to post the same thing Grin

This is baby No 4 - I have never had my waters go yet - I think I am hoping that they do with this one.

Pootletrinket · 21/04/2011 14:47

I went and had it checked out, now doubly :( as not only did they reckon it wasn't waters (so, now I've become incontinent and not realised?!) but cervix is firm and baby has moved back to oblique - was a bit of a fight as the MW thought I might need to stay in, but luckily have come home - but more despondent!

Thanks for the reponses though.
