I am 40+3 today and waiting for things to happen. Last night I got up off the sofa to head to bed and I got what I thought of at the time a contraction, it was a tightening of my lower bump and very very painful, it lasted about 2 mins, I just about mananged to get myself to my bed where my dh made me get on my knees towards him with my arms over his shoulder where it eventually went away.

I have had plenty of braxton hicks and this wasn't one.

I lay down in bed and kind of expected more, but they never came.

In hindsight I should have perhaps got on my birthing ball to encourage some more. I shall go and do that shortly to see If things will kick off a bit more.

But firstly does it sound like a contraction and also is it possible just to have one as an early sign?

TIA

It sounds like the stronger Braxton Hicks you can get when you are in the last stages of pregnancy. I had these with both my pregnancies. It could mean labour is imminent...or maybe not! Sorry! Grin

(Although given you are 40 + weeks, it probably does mean things are getting moving...)
