5 weeks preg and terrified it's going wrong - can anyone reassure...?

Hi ladies,

I know there's not much anyone can say but just wondered if anyone else had had a similar experience and things had worked out ok.

I'll be five weeks tomorrow with our first. I have had two chemical pregs before this so really terrified that this one won't stick either.

Since Monday I have had lower back pain on and off. Right in the sacroiliac joint (bit where the pelvis and legs join) and in the buttock. It's mostly on the right side but occassionally dull ache on the left too. It's worse lying down and sitting, better for standing and walking around. The pain was bad enough to keep me awake most of the night but disappeared as soon as I got up.

According to the Google doctor (!) it sounds like it could be Pelvic Girdle Pain but it's so early can this be right?

I also retested with the clearblue digital today and the conception indicator still reads 1-2 weeks (it should be 2-3 by now if HCG is rising). I did see somewhere that it's only 76% accurate at this stage so just hoping it's wrong in my case....? I couldn't bear another loss.

Help! So worried Confused

Hello, i've had two pregnancies, and remember getting loads of aches and pains very early on on both of them - I think its all part and parcel of the vast changes that your body needs to go through in order to make a baby. Some of them were so shocking / overwhelming i couldnt believe there was nothing seriously wrong.

Im so sorry to hear about your first two pregnancies, you are bound to be worried now. I lost my first son, and now fortunately have a beautiful 3 month old baby boy. Both times I was scared - i was convinced something was wrong all the way through both. pregnancy really is a roller coaster of emotions... the best thing you can do is talk to a midwife or GP that you trust. They can check your pregnancy and hopefully understand your fears. You should be able to visit them as often as you need to.

Good luck xx

Green ah bless you. Stop googling, stop testing and concentrate on relaxing. I know that is very easy to say but everything you have described sounds normal. At 5 weeks there are huge hormonal changes going on, implantation, stretching, swelling, cramping...everything nature can throw at you to stress you out! You may even get some spotting but as long as this isnt prolonged or heavy then it really does sound like you are doing well so far. To ease your worries a bit, can you arrange an early scan in a couple of weeks, NHS or privately?
I know only too well how the hours drag at your stage in pg and after losses, its so much worse (I had 4 losees), but nothing you can do will make any difference - so keep your fingers crossed, (keep your legs crossed) and I really hope in a few weeks you will see a healthy sticky bean in there just primed to give you stress for the next 9 months!
Good luck x

LaWeasel · 21/04/2011 10:04

Hi GreenTea, I'm sorry about your past experiences.

I am about the same amount PG as you - and I ache all over the place too. I have a DD, and it was the same with her. As I understand it, it's just all your internal organs starting to shift around and hormones starting to relax your muscles.

If the pain is bad, as opposed to distracting, and you're worried of if you have any bleeding (particularly red bleeding or clots) I would ring your GP. Otherwise I think it sounds fairly normal.

Those tests are a load of rubbish, hcg levels vary hugely from woman to woman, please throw them out and stop worrying about they say!

user5178623 · 21/04/2011 10:27

Thanks all - you have made me feel so much better Smile Google is indeed the devils work - it seems that everything symptom is either (a) totally normal (b) a sign of miscarriage, so it really is pointless looking it up!

Mooghill and Jasmine so sorry to hear about your losses, and really glad it worked out for you in the end.

LaWeasel thanks for the wise words - I will step away from the tests. Sorry you are aching too, but it's great to hear from someone at the same stage.

The pain has actually almost totally subsided now, ironically enough. I don't know - I worry when I have symptoms, then I worry when they seem to go away Wink

I have an early scan booked for six weeks - just praying we make it til then and they do see a sticky bean on the screen...

xx

Glad we could help Grin and good luck for your scan and a sticky bean!

Mooghill · 21/04/2011 12:02

Good luck will keep everything crossed for you and your little bean xxx

purpleflower123 · 21/04/2011 12:17

Everything crossed for you, I'm 5 weeks too and have been having loads of period type pains. It's just everything moving around!

permatannedpumpkin · 01/05/2011 13:23

Just wanted to say a quick thanks, as I am in a similar position and had been worrying. Glad to know it's not out of the ordinary!

Janoschi · 01/05/2011 22:09

I got very bad ligament pain really early on - in fact I felt so sore even a week before my period was due (so 3 weeks pregnant, in hindsight) that I took a pregnancy test and tested positive. I've had a miscarriage before so have been hyper-alert to problems real and imaginary - can imagine you must be feeling similar! Try not to worry - things really do hurt but it's usually the hormones softening things up and getting ready for bigger things, so it's actually a good sign.

My miscarriage was painless at the start, if this helps you to know. Had agonising contractions during the loss itself but the start (first 24 hours) was painless with just blood....

Fingers crossed for you and babs.

kalo12 · 01/05/2011 22:15

greentea - i have had 3 mcs. I am pregnant, 30 weeks. but at first I was convinced that this preg was not viable. I had no symptoms until 10 weeks - did loads of preg tests that got fainter and fainter.

It's normal to worry but all you can do to help is think positive!!!!!! there's no reason not to

Janoschi · 01/05/2011 22:37

Ooops, forgot to say I'm now 37+4. Yes, think positive, sticky thoughts! Personally I think pain is usually a good sign.... Look after yourself.

boba82 · 02/05/2011 18:34

greentea we had a really hard time getting pregnant & I too had 2 chem pregs. I'm 21+2 at the moment and still worry constantly! I found out at 5 weeks and from about 6 weeks I had constant period like cramps. I was constantly on knicker watch but I put it down to uterus stretching. I tried taking one day/week milestone at a time and whilst I can't say that time has flown in I think once you're past the 12 week mark things do get slightly easier. Try and relax!

d0gFace · 02/05/2011 18:53

Im 5 weeks atm and it feels like Ive been kicked in the uterus. :)

Everyones different, try and take your mind off it by doing something you like.

Goodluck!

harassedinherpants · 03/05/2011 17:11

Hi,

I'll be 6 weeks tomorrow and am spending most of my time quietly freaking out.... I've had 2 mc's this year (mmc in Jan and mc 6 weeks ago) and fell preg straight after the last one. I've got loads of crampy pains and it's so scary! Mw says to take it as easy as I can (with a 4yr old and moving in 3 weeks!), and epu will scan me at 8 weeks. Two to go.......

fifitrixabelle78 · 03/05/2011 19:07

Hi dogface and harrassed.
I love the bit where you said you feel like you've been kicked in uterus. I know EXACTLY what you mean. Keep reminding myself lots of people get this and that it's good it's not off at one side.

Either of you want to join the Jan club in antenatal clubs? I'm due Dec 31st (fingers crossed) but figured I'd prob be Jan though.

harassedinherpants · 04/05/2011 09:38

Hi fifi sorry I can't bring myself to join a club just yet. I did with the first one (Aug) and it was awful when it went wrong.

I've actually spoken to both mw and epu today as my symptoms seem to be diminishing. Boobs not quite so sore, ms not quite so bad (allegedly!). Mw says it could be that I'm getting used to all the hormones, but even so am booked in tomorrow for a scan at the epu.

Please keep everything crossed for me, no idea how I'd cope with losing 3 in 5 months Sad.

d0gFace · 04/05/2011 09:59

Hoping everything goes well for you.

fifitrixabelle78 · 04/05/2011 18:37

Big fingers crossed for you harassed. Let us know how I goes. I really wish they scanned early routinely. Still utterly paranoid (for no good reason) that this'll be an EP.

harassedinherpants · 05/05/2011 14:43

I've had a fabulous scan!! After being warned it might be too early to see a hb, babypants was there with a beating heart! She measures 4.7mm with is spot on for 6+1. I can not tell you the relief! I cried and dh nearly did bless him.

I also think we should be routinely scanned earlier especially if previous history. I'd really like another one in a couple of weeks as my mmc was at 10wks with baby measuring 7. Will see how I go and if we can afford private if necessary, but moving around the 28th so going to need every penny I think.

d0gFace · 05/05/2011 14:58

Congratulations on your good news. Hope things continue to work out for you both. :)

fifitrixabelle78 · 06/05/2011 19:16

Yay! That's fab news!

clairebear88 · 06/05/2011 21:30

hiya
I am 5 1/2 wks with #1 and have got loads of bloating/period like pains. I have suffered 2 mcs in the past so am also worried. as you said when you read up on it its the same symptoms for early pregnancy and miscarriage so I think its just a waiting game. i know that doesnt help but thats all we can do is take it easy and be positive.
good luck to you and hope its a sticky onex

shandybass · 07/05/2011 09:16

Hi
I just wanted to add that I'm 6 weeks pg and having cranky pains too. I've just come on line to seek advice so this thread is very reassuring that it is a fairly normal symptom. Here's crossing my fingers for us all.

Great news for you harassed. I'm still waiting to get a gp appointment. I've had 2mc, one spontaneous the other got to the 12 week scan and there was no hb, no baby. Then I had a lovely Dd and we've been ttc now since a year and am finally pg.
