I was 4 days. They asked if I wanted to go on day 3, but I was in quite a lot of pain and asked to stay. By day 4 I was a lot better. Also, I didn't realise you got home visits from midwives and I thought I was just getting turfed out to fend for myself, so didn't feel ready to leave!

My hospital say up to 3 days. My friend had a c section there at 3.30pm on Friday and was home by 4pm today as she felt ready.

48 hours after the first
24 hours after the 2nd but I left with no kids as in scbu a d they weren't happy for me to leave.
Due the next within 2 weeks and aiming for 48 hours unless I can escape sooner but depends how the babies are.

3 days for first at our hospital, 2 days for second and subsequent provided there are no problems - I was in for 3 though because of issues with DS2's blood sugar.

I don't think you would want to be home any sooner than 2 days though, I was still very sore up until then and would have been really nervous about DS1 bashing into me or something.

I went in on a Thursday morning and had DS2 at 10am that morning. Was home by early afternoon on Saturday...I was desperate to come home (mainly because I was missing DS1 so much Sad). Asked one of my community midwifes who had popped by to say hello on the Friday night and she was adamant they would make me stay for 3 nights but on Saturday morn they needed the bed so they were quite happy for me to leave Smile

After having DS1 by emergency cs, it was 3 nights but I had been in labour for 24 hours prior to the op so was totally knackered and probably needed the extra rest.

40 hours after EMCS, consultant says if no complications I can expect similar for ELCS

Julezboo · 17/04/2011 21:13

In our hospital its 24 hours for elective, 48 hours for emergency.

peanutbutterontoast · 17/04/2011 21:17

Two nights is standard here, they have separate theatre & staff for electives so the latest you go into theatre is 11am - up to the postnatal ward before 2pm (day 0). Discharge is in the morning of day 2.

TBH I've always felt well enough to go home (& rest/eat decent food/get proper pain relief etc) after 1 night, so all being well I'll be going on day 1 this time.

Thanks everyone. Really hate hospitals so hoping I won't need to go in at all!!

ds was emcs. i was in for less than 48h. they suggested we went home so we said ok. with hind sight i wish i'd stayed longer as i picked up a urine infection.

dc2 is arriving by elcs on fri. when i was at hospital to book it in they said 24h then out. i asked what if baby wasn't feeding etc and they said you'd just get readmitted!!! Shock the mw was VERY blunt!
have spoken to other mw since and they said you can go after 24h if all's well and you want to. they'll probably ask you to go before 48h if all's well.
