I get up in the morning and put on bio oil, at about 12 I put on palmers cocoa butter for stretch marks, later on in the evening i put on an organic frankinsence cream and the bio oil again when i go to bed. I'm also taking cod liver oil for stretchyness!

Despite my daily strugle my stomach looks like its been raked with hundreds of forks :( making me so depressed! My mum said each one will be a tiny medal of honour when I finally meet my little boy! Anyone got ANY suggestions :(

I'm 25 weeks and I know it's going to get even worse!

Is this your first?
I am currently preg with my second 32 weeks, with my first I put cream on religiously everyday morning and night and STILL got them. Unfortunately there's nothing much you can do. However I will say I haven't got one with this preg and my old ones are now silver so can hardly see them!!! They didn't bother me that much, everytime I look at my DD I knew they were worth every mark! X

I know this is not what you want to hear but you might just be one of the unlucky ones.

My twin sister was due 6 days before me and despite us having pretty much the same body and our LO's being only an ounce different in weight at birth, she got loads of stretchmarks. She'd been putting on loads of bio oil and I'd done nothing but I only got one small one on my bum and she got covered in them. Sorry! Sad

I know it's really horrible to get them and I can't pretend I'm not glad I only got one. But now her DD is 7 months and her stretch marks have completely faded. I don't think it looks that bad and whenever I see a woman with stretchmarks from pregnancy it just makes me think what a wonderful thing their body has gone through.

Your mum is right that they are a medal of honour and you should be proud of yourself and your body for what you're doing! Smile

The thiing with stretchmarks is that sadly there is nothing you can do. I am covered in them duee to weight loss and although they fade they will never go.

licoriceGreen · 17/04/2011 18:32

I'm only 18 weeks and have them too! Ive just started with bio oil hoping to stop them or at least slow them down.

Cod liver oil is high in vit a so the nhs say you should avoid when your pregnant. www.nhs.uk/chq/Pages/1757.aspx?CategoryID=54&SubCategoryID=129

There's nothing you can do sadly. It's largely genetic and the skin stretches and tears at a depth that no lotion or potion will reach. The creams will help with the itch though and it feels nice to look after yourself.

I had horrendous stretchmarks on my stomach, breasts, back, thighs, knees and so on. They faded and turned silvery eventually but there was no preventing them.

I depends on baby's position and how much they wriggle etc. I had none until a week before dd was born. They fade lots. When dd was 2.5 I even braved a bikini on holiday and they didn't show.

I agree with ShowOfHands- whatever expensive crams/oils you use, the damage is at a level that they will not be able to reach. Genetics and age seem the most relevant factors (the older you are the less you are likely to get).

They do fade eventually to silvery lines that are much less noticeable though.

I dont think the creams do much really except stop your skin from drying which would make your stretch marks look worse. They more supple you skin the better they look, and the better they will look in long run.

I am very lucky Im 35 weeks and only have then just below my pant line!

you ladies are all right :( just not what i wanted to hear!
guess i'm jut unlucky! think the age thing might be a factor, i'm 20 so thought my skin would be nice and stretchy, but maybe older skin can be pulled around a bit more! Hopefuly being young will help me bounce back into shape!
(ps. it's not cod liver oil, it's a special pregnacare omega 3 fish capsule)
