overdue & bored of waiting....

anyone else?

I'm only 40+2, but DD arrived at 33+5, and we all (Drs included) expected this one to come early too so I've been ready & waiting for about 8 weeks now....

I'm obviously very pleased that this one has behaved itself & stayed in an appropriate amount of time, but honestly... it can come out now! I'm down to my last 3 raspberry leaf tea bags, have had 2 reflexology sessions, & am bored of curry - if it carries on for too much longer I might even have to contemplate having sex! Shock

Pootle I know that your MW is being weird about a sweep. But I wondered if Bessie has had one?

My EDD is Monday and I have read that from 40 weeks I am able to request one. My hospital won't do a thing until I am 42 weeks...but I have seriously had enough.

Off to stomp around different green spaces today. But I am so utterly fed up. Also chomping on rasperry leaf tablet things but this baby just seems so cosy, I cannot imagine it coming any time soon. My mum keeps on saying that baby will wait until I have reached the end of my tether so I that I appreciate it more - ha Grin. But in all seriousness, I am losing the plot.

Not helped by the fact that DH is fricking ill. So it's not as though I can pounce on him for some exy...Hmm.

bessie26 · 20/04/2011 09:47

Yes little I had a sweep yesterday afternoon (@40+4). Am gutted I am still sat here, but as DH "helpfully" pointed out this morning it's not even been 24hrs yet & the MW said it would hopefully make something happen within 48hrs.
I did have lots of BH tightenings yesterday & I have a low down dull ache this morning, so perhaps I am just being too impatient?

pootle can I ask why you are so against an induction? It's not something I want as ideally I want baby to come when it's ready (with perhaps just a little gentle encouragement!) but I think by 40+12 I may be ready to try anything!!

Bessie, fingers crossed your sweep will prove effective in time, but I know that time feels like forever.

I'm so against an induction because I had one with DD and it was a truly horrendous experience, not one that's shared by everyone, but it was enough to leave me quite phobic of the consultant's ward and the people in it. Also, once induced, no chance of using the birthing pool, which I would really really really like.

I read about a restaurant that cooks a dish for ovber due women and thought I would post it here for you all to try-

"To date, more than 300 of the pregnant women customers who ordered the eggplant have given birth within 48 hours, and the restaurant dubs them the "eggplant babies." If it doesn't work in two days, the moms-to-be get a giftcertificate for another meal.

We make no promises, but the restaurant has graciously shared the recipe."

Ingredients
3 medium sized eggplants
1 cup flour
6 eggs, beaten
4 cups fine Italian bread crumbs, seasoned
Olive oil for sauteing
8 cups of marinara sauce (recipe below)
1/2 cup grated Romano cheese
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1 1/2 pounds of mozzarella cheese, shredded
2 cups of ricotta cheese

Directions

  1. After you wash the eggplant, slice them into 1/4-inch thick slices. You may choose to peel the eggplant before you slice it. However, you may want to leave the skin on since it contains a lot of vitamins.
  1. Place the eggplant slices on a layer of paper towels and sprinkle with a little salt, then cover with another layer of paper towels and hold it down with something heavy to drain the excess moisture. Let them sit for about an hour.
  1. Working with one slice of eggplant at a time, dust with flour, dip in beaten eggs, then coat well with breadcrumbs.
  1. Saute in preheated olive oil on both sides until golden brown.
  1. In baking dish, alternate layers of marinara sauce, eggplant slices, ricotta, parmesan and Romano cheeses, until you fill the baking dish, about 1/8 inch from the top. Cover with shredded mozzarella cheese, and bake for 25 minutes in a 375 degree oven. Let sit for 10 minutes before serving.

Scalini's Marinara Sauce

Ingredients
2 Tablespoons of chopped garlic
3 Tablespoons of olive oil
8 cups chopped tomatoes (fresh or canned)
1 cup onions, chopped
1/2 cup of fresh chopped parsley
1 teaspoon oregano
1 teaspoon of crushed red pepper
1/8 cup of fresh chopped sweet basil
Pinch of thyme
Pinch of rosemary
One teaspoon salt
One teaspoon black pepper

Directions

  1. Lightly saute the onions in olive oil in large pot for a few minutes.
  1. Add garlic and saute another minute.
  1. Add tomatoes and bring sauce to a boil, then turn heat low.
  1. Add remaining ingredients, stir, cover and let simmer for one hour, stirring occasionally.

PS Eggplants are Aubergines!

Pootletrinket · 20/04/2011 11:34

Thanks Selina, sounds nice (although might need to slash recipe to a quarter as neither DH nor DD like aubergines!) - just back from the shop but might give it a go tmw.

Off for a bounce or walk now! Baby was wriggling as I bounced and belly danced last night, but think it was just joining in, rather than 'getting down'!!

SelinaDoula · 20/04/2011 11:50

If you are doing the ball, try vigerous circles (not gentle ones! Put music on) for 20 mins, 10 mins one direction. 10 the other.

jurasic are you still there? Have you seen this thread about posterior babies?

OP posts:
Pootletrinket · 20/04/2011 12:25

Yes, been vigorous - needs reinflating!!!!! 10 mins in each direction.

Oobis · 20/04/2011 13:45

40 + 1, had a sweep this morning. Whilst it would suit for baby to arrive sooner rather than later, is it usual to have a sweep this early? This is my first baby, so I was expecting to hang on a little while anyway. Meanwhile, trying to enjoy the gorgeous weather and avoid the ironing...

bessie26 · 20/04/2011 14:59

Hi oobis from what I've read on here it seems to vary quite a bit, whether it's by region or midwife I don't know! I had mine yesterday at 40+4 which was the first day my MW was back from her holiday.

Have you had any signs of something happening yet?

OP posts:
Oobis · 20/04/2011 15:04

I can't really tell, I went straight to the shop and bought some lovely hot, freshly made samosas afterwards and now feel a little overfull to say the least! Baby is still moving about, I had expected he would have a rest if he was planning on coming out imminently but I have probably made this up based on no actual fact! How are you getting on?

bessie26 · 20/04/2011 15:14

Yesterday evening I had lots of BH, but today I've just got occasional low down period-type pains... just had some frozen yogurt so that's woken baby up! Grin

OP posts:
Pootletrinket · 20/04/2011 15:17

Good luck oobis! My MW said that NICE guidelines are for women to be offered sweep from 40 weeks but that our hosp. policy is not to offer until 41 weeks.

Just had some lovely reflexology after a quick stomp in the sun - anyone know, with walking, is it meant to be speed, distance or duration?!!

ecuse · 20/04/2011 15:18

40+1 today too, and had a sweep yesterday at my 40-week check. Immediately afterwards I had crampy pains in my lower bump and got all excited, but nothing since. Now about 27 hours since I had it Sad

I'm booked in for induction next Wednesday (41+1). They wanted to do it tomorrow (40+3) because I have pregnancy-induced high blood pressure (well controlled by medication, though) but I asked them to give me a bit longer.

Come out, little baby, come out!

Oobis · 20/04/2011 15:29

I think I'll go for the nap option before some rushed housework before DH gets home. Good luck Bessie, hope you get some action soon!

bessie26 · 20/04/2011 15:35

ecuse I'm booked in for induction next wed too! Am trying to get hold of MW to see if it's worth arranging another sweep next tues!

pootle I have another reflexology session booked for tomorrow - does it make you feel funny (in a nice relaxed way) when they're rubbing the cervix bit or is that just me?!

Off for another walk in the sun now. I had assumed it was duration that was important as I thought it was good to get baby's head in contact with the cervix (doesn't it encourage the release of the oxytocin?) but I could be very wrong!!

OP posts:
SelinaDoula · 20/04/2011 15:42

Try walking with one foot on and one foot off the pavement, then back in the other direction. For some iof not all of your walk. It rocks the pelvis (but does look a bit weird lol)

bessie26 · 20/04/2011 15:47

I'm going to look like I've had too many G&Ts!!

My lovely MW is coming round my house on Sunday morning to do another sweep!

OP posts:
SelinaDoula · 20/04/2011 15:50

I usually go with my clients and do it too, to keep them company so we both look like nutters lol

Pootletrinket · 20/04/2011 16:00

It's quite uncomfortable, I've found - someone told me to do it for 15 mins each way, but I could only manage a few at a time!! I did warn the neighbours!

I've tried shorter walks, with stomping feet as baby's head is nowhere near the cervix!

Pootletrinket · 20/04/2011 16:01

Meant to say, Good luck ecuse, hope baby comes and glad your PIH is under control, well done for getting them to give you longer!

Pootletrinket · 20/04/2011 16:03

Oh, and not sure about the cervix bit, Bessie, I only know where the adrenal, pituitary glands and uterus are!!! But I could have drifted off to sleep today!!!

SelinaDoula · 20/04/2011 16:04

Pootle Try this technique-
Technique: Hands through the hole-
www.spinningbabies.com/techniques/in-pregnancy/daily-activities
Its down near the bottom of the page. I did this earlier and it felt very effective and I think my baby shifted today into a better oposition.
