Does anyone know if getting compost in a cut is dangerous in pregnancy

Hi everyone I'm 32 weeks and have been gardening with the kids but have managed to cut my finger n get compost in it. Not sure if this could be dangerous to baby, tried to phone midwife and ask but no one is there! Have cleaned with antiseptic but not sure if that's enough!
Any one with any info would be greatly appreciated.

You shouldn't do gardening while pregnant. It's all about the cat poo. I did some potting with compost when I was pregnant with dd and spent ages emailing the compost company. While they can't guarantee a cat hasn't been near it they felt it would probably be okay. Sorry to not be of much help. I would probably keep trying the midwife to see if they can put your mind at rest.

I wouldn't worry at all, when I was pregnant I had livestock and a large garden to look after, Now have 2 healthy adults.....1 of whom is pregnant, I think being out in the garden with the kids, getting fresh air is doing you more good than sitting worrying about the contents of compost.......when you think about the pollution we are all breathing in anyway, :) x

Just keep an eye on it, if you finger starts to swell go to hospital immediately.

I don't mean to alarm you but a friend of the family cut her finger just the other week while gardening and had to be admitted to hospital for an operation. Whatever bug had got in caused a serious infection and she had to be put on iv antibiotics. She was told that it could have been fatal and that she was very lucky that she didn't lose her arm.

Again it's very unlikely that you would have picked up the same bacteria but if in doubt get checked out.

P.S her symptoms were swelling of the finger caring down the arm, and throbbing finger and arm, she said it was very painful (she even said more painful than child birth) by the time she was admitted.

If you were doing this kind of thing beofre you were pregnant, then you are probably imune to most things like bacteria etc that is found in soil and compost in the garden. Have you had your tetanus? Im sure it is all fine though as long as it was washed throughly afterwards.

You will be absolutely fine, guaranteed! Smile...... just deep breathe for a minute and remember all the healthy babies born in very unsanitary corners of the world...

Thanx for your replies, spoke to midwife today who said should be fine as long it wasn't manure, as it was shop bought compost not sure exactly but fingers crossed!
