I've never been one of those people who 'know' the position of their babies,

DS just feels like an octopus in there!

Been told today he may be breech,

could you please tell me

a) if your baby is breech or head down

and

b) where you feel movememnt and what kind of movements, ie sticky out limb, big hard ball ect...

so I can try and decipher if what I feel is in line with ceph or breech.

Thanks.

Right then. I had my baby last year, he was very definitely breech until I had him turned at 37 weeks. his head was on the left of my tummy, just under the ribs. It felt very very solid and large like a bowling ball. He was sitting with one leg stretched out and all my movements were below the bellybutton, with a lot of what felt like stamping on my cervix (ouch) Angry

I felt virtually no movements at all higher up.

When I said to my midwife he was breech she said oh sometimes it feels like that but the bum and head feel very similar until the fat layer goes on the bum. Then she felt my tummy and stopped hedging her bets. Grin

hmmm, all my kicky movememnts are above my belly button and on the right like directly under my right breast.

and then i wiggly movementsaround the hip area, like a slower turning-sort-of feeling

Grin How far are you along?

Am 38 weeks and ds is head down with his spine either central to my bump or on my left (LOA).

I feel the bigger movements on the lower left side of my bump and more centrally lower down. I then have turning feelings very low down in my pelvis and cervix (his head is fixed though as well)

I think the spinning baby site has diagrams about position and where you are likely to feel the movements here

wow, really interesting site! will have a look when kids are in bed thanks.

I'm 37 weeks on monday according to scan but am 90% sure am actually 38 weeks mon x

I feel the most movement on the right upper side of bump, i know my baby has been head down for ages, I feel very little movement lower down. When it moves a lot at the moment i get movement in the upper left side of the bump which i'm sure is the bum. the spinning babies website is very good for trying to work it out.

saldoozer · 15/04/2011 18:15

P.s I'm 37+2 now

Paschaelina · 15/04/2011 18:16

Oh yes spinningbabies is good. Lots of crawling on all fours waving your arse side to side, and upside down positions on sofa.

I'm 36 weeks. My baby is head down, her back on my right hand side, and limbs towards my left (had another scan this week so know this to be fact!). I feel alot of movement across my belly button - it pops in and out which is grim - right into my left hip, as well as under my right boob/cleavage. I have no movement high up on the left hand side, and when she gets hiccups I feel them between my belly button and bush-of-plenty. I didn't have a clue what !osition she was in though prior to scan so totally get where you're coming from! And I'm another lover of the spinningbabies site - lovely MNers pointed me in that direction too :)

TotorosOcarina · 16/04/2011 16:56

I don't think he is breech cause i always get limbs poking out under my ribs which i assume are his feet, if he is breech he must have his arms over his head Confused

Well there we are then! Unless he's a little rocker. Or digging the one-man Mexican Wave look :)

frakyouveryverymuch · 16/04/2011 17:14

Can you identify the spine if you lie in your back? Then follow it to one end and push gently. If the whole body moves that's the bottom, if it moves independently it's baby's head. Then you should be able to find the feet to confirm.

He could be a frank breech (legs straight and up by head) so feet under ribs doesn't necessarily mean head down.

TotorosOcarina · 16/04/2011 17:42

i don't even know if its his back i can feel never mind his spine !

think im gonna just have to wait for the scan!

Carrying a breech whopper of a baby here at nearly 37w! Tis #4 and has been confirmed as breech by late scan...and the fact that I have a solid melon type mass under my right rib! LO has been there since 28 weeks and is obviously comfy as dd3 was the same!

Lots of trouble breathing...eating & sleeping! But worst of all the most god awful painful kicks in my fanjo & cervix which I'm convinced will pop my waters if they get any harder!! Shock (not sure whether this is possible but blooming feels like it!!)

It's not the most comfortable position for baby to be in but not a candidate for ECV as I'm booked for ELCS anyway! Hasn't stopped me trying to swing the little monkey around though Grin.

Incidentally it wasnt discovered that dd3 was still breech until the incision was made on the operating table (midwife an hour before..."oh yes baby is CERTAINLY head down....and engaged!! Yes I'm sure!!) Hmm

Most of the kicks I had with DDs 1&2 were at the top of my bump and they were head down.

I'm 37+5 and my baby is head down with her back slightly to my left. I feel her kicking on the righthand side of my tummy from my belly button upwards, also sometimes under my ribs on that side.

Good luck with your birth!

TotorosOcarina · 19/04/2011 08:40

i have an appointment with a consultant tomorrow morning and possibly a scan to confirm if baby is breech or not, so fingers crossed for me :)

Good luck Toto, let us know the result.

Janoschi · 19/04/2011 11:46

I was breech (and sometimes traverse) until last week (I'm 36 weeks today). The kicks were definitely against my bladder and lower bits, if you know what I mean! I did some of the SpinningBaby exercises and had an almighty wobbly tummy one night. The midwife and scan both confirmed the baby had turned head down. Now the kicks are sort of waist height, almost around the back of me! I can feel hands grabbing things down below, and not much movement by my ribs. Hope this helps.

TotorosOcarina · 20/04/2011 13:20

he is head down! :)
