breech baby.

am 37 week on Mon according to midwives but believe I am 38 weeks monday.

Just had my home-birth appointment and midwife thinks baby is breech.

Had a scan at 32 weeks - baby def head down.

Last pallpitation at 34 weeks was apparantly cephalic.

So no idea IF or when hes turned.

Midwife was talking about c-sections - urgh :(

shes trying to sort a scan out to check for sure but won't be till next week sometime.

Very similar to me - I posted a thread in childbirth yesterday.. Am 37 weeks on Monday too, think I am actually 39 weeks (date of conception from scan impossible) but have been breech all along.

Scan booked for Monday morning and trying to get into see the consultant asap as baby is already over 7 pounds according to the regular growth scans so unsure if they will even attempt an ecv or if we'll be booked straight in for a caesarean...

You might want to research on the childbirth thread to see if you would feel comfortable with a vaginal breech delivery - I have decided against in the circumstances and has resigned myself to a csection. I would just prefer it to be planned rather than an emergency!

I'm already decided that if he is breech I will just have c-section.

The though of breech vaginal birth makes me feel faint. And don't think I'd want them to try manually turning him.

My 'scan' dates don't make sense either, but they still insist on sticking with them.

I had ECV (when the consultant turned the baby) with DS, who was breech. Once he was turned at around 37-38, he stayed put and I had a natural delivery. They give you a strange drug which relaxes your womb muscles but makes your heart beat fast, which is a bit unpleasant but doesn't last that long. The turning is done whilst watching the baby on the scan screen, to make sure that there are no problems.

I did the ECV after trying everything else I could find out about - from scrubbing skirting boards and yogic positions to moxibustion (chinese therapy with incense burning on little toe). Don't be scared of it - the consultant I went to was highly experienced and had a high success rate - it's worth considering as you might get the HB you wanted ...

ds was breech, footling as well, ECV didn't work for me, but I must admit I asked them to stop pretty early on (wimp) as I had a chest infection and I couldnt' breathe. All the way through my mw appts the mw swore blind he was head down, I knew he was breech but because he was my first I didn't push it, but the midwife must have had her doubts so she sent me for the scan to confirm it. Palpation is a bit of an art form, it's not always accurate, you could still have a ceph baby.

i am sorry to hear that... my baby was sitting in a perferct LOA position at 32 weeks and then turned at 34 weeks, i feel your pain... i read that yogic inversion can help with breach babies, but i would only advise these to an experienced practicioner... i suppose these are worth a try if you are comfortable.... if you have access to a pool try to swim as much as possible and do some flips in the water... also, get on all fours and swivle your hips around. good luck!

btw, before you do all this, i think you should insist on a scan

yes, i would happily try all the things to help him turn but i don't want to start them until i KNOW he is breech, other wise i might turn a ceph baby turn, lol.

but have to wait till next week to find out at scan!
