I had been having symptoms the past 10 days (tiredness, nausea, cramps) so I did a test Wed morning even though period not due til today really and there was a really faint line so I thought hmm maybe it's not true. Did another test, another faint line. So yesterday bought a digital one and sure enough it said pregnant 1-2 weeks. Yay! But I am away this week, not back home until Saturday, and don't want to tell my husband over the phone, really want to be there with him when I tell him. But it's SO HARD not to say anything to anyone or to him on the phone. He just rang and was saying he'd no news really and I was like yeah me too. WHAT A LIE! Ugh. I am so excited and just have to go into work as normal! Cannot wait until tomorrow!

Oh how exciting and CONGRATULATIONS!!

I hope time flies by for you. I am certainly willing it on for you.

How are you going to tell him? (Sorry, I'm nosey)

mopsytop · 15/04/2011 08:40

I am thinking I will go out at lunch and buy a book, like maybe 'The Expectant Father' and then give it to him when I see him... or maybe show him the positive test. But seeing as I pe-ed on the stick I don't know if that is a bit gross!! haha. He is going to be so surprised because it was the first month we tried. I am flabbergasted that we actually succeeded first go! All I can say is thank goodness I was so careful about contraception when I was younger!

I know how you feel. I managed to fall pregnant within the first month too.

I only took the test to get my AF to come and give me enough time to have left it behind for the hols Hmm

To keep yourself occupied, why not see if you can get a book now? And you can always get a new test to take tomorrow :)

mopsytop · 15/04/2011 10:30

Yeah I bought a 2 pack digital actually, so I can take it tomorrow with him maybe. Well not with him in the room !!!!! Will get a book at lunchtime. Need to work today. I suppose I should get off the Internet! but just want to read up baby things! I am a bit ignorant about lots of things. I suppose I'd better think about making a doctor's appointment too! But I nearly feel it's not real until my husband knows!

PoppysMom · 15/04/2011 10:33

Well, not that much longer to go now.
You can book an appointment with your Doctor next week after it has sunk in a bit more :)

mopsytop · 15/04/2011 10:37

Yeah I am only just 2 weeks if that (well I guess 4 weeks) so not too much rush to do that. Will do it next week sometime.
ugh so excited, just want to get on a train and go home now!

ChippingInMistressSteamMop · 15/04/2011 10:40

Congratulations!!

Are you going home tonight?

How about meeting him in a restaurant? There's no way you'll be able to see him and not tell him until lunch tomorrow!

I'd buy a cute little babygrow with 'I love my Dad' or something mushy on it :)

PoppysMom · 15/04/2011 10:43

Oh that is a really sweet idea ChippingIn :)

mopsytop · 15/04/2011 10:47

That is a cute idea! I am getting the train home tomorrow morning. So I will get him to meet me at the station.
I want to jump up and down with excitement! But I can't tell anyone because want to wait until 3 months (which feels like forever away!!!). Thank goodness for Mumsnet!

mopsy - one thing to think about is, 'Who would I tell if I miscarried' - if you would tell people, then why wait until 12 weeks to tell them you are pregnant?

mopsytop · 15/04/2011 11:28

Good point actually! think will tell my parents when I go home next week and my husband's mum the following weekend and my sisters and leave it at that! one of my sisters is also trying and not preg yet though, don't want to upset her. But she will want to know at the same time. It's a tricky one.

ChippingInMistressSteamMop · 15/04/2011 11:38

I don't think it's tricky with your sister. Surely she will be thrilled for you, even if she's upset it's not her? I assume she would be far more upset to find out she wasn't told because it might upset her?

mopsytop · 15/04/2011 11:40

Yeah you are right, I think ChippingIn. And I know she will be pleased for me. But I just don't want to upset her either you know? It would be so great if she could get pregnant soon too and we could have little cousins the same age!!

Yes - that would be lovely wouldn't it :)

Do you live near each other?

mopsytop · 15/04/2011 12:06

No! different countries unfortunately :(

ChippingInMistressSteamMop · 15/04/2011 12:20

Oh - that's a shame :(

So have you chosen your buggy, names, colour of the baby's room, the cot & the birthing plan this morning?! LOL so exciting huh!

Work ---- pah!

mopsytop · 15/04/2011 12:23

God haven't thought about a single thing at ALL! Haven't told anyone yet so ... but yes lots of fun things to think about! Although baby's room will have to be my study (tiny house) so it can stay white! It will literally have to be a cot in the corner of my study! Living somewhere tiny doesn't give you much options!

Birthing plan ugh no thanks! Going to leave thinking about that as long as I possibly can! Eeek!

yes work is going a little by the wayside I must admit!

p.s. doesn't really feel real in spite of joining mumsnet! Which is why I guess I haven't thought about anything apart from, oh my god!!!!!!!!!

Hey ChippingIn - I went out at lunch and got a really cute newborn babygro. Will wrap it up and give to him tomorrow when I get off the train. Yay! can't wait to see his face! He'll never believe I am pregnant first go!!!

mopsytop · 16/04/2011 13:42

Finally got to tell my husband! Only got back home today. Was SO hard to wait to tell him! But he is thrilled too but also totally surprised. We neither expected to get pregnant so fast!

Grin

So how did you tell him? What did he say? Did he love the babygrow?

Did you really only join MN yesterday when you found out you were pregnant? If so, what a way to start:)

Don't worry about the small house - babies don't take up much room, it's all the CRAP that takes up the space and you don't need 85% of it! Just keep the grandparents on a short rein buying stuff and you'll be fine!

mopsytop · 16/04/2011 14:27

I wrapped up a babygro and folded it around the digital preg test saying 'Pregnant 2-3 weeks'. when he opened it he thought it was a pair of pants and a pen! He couldn't figure it out!!!. Then he got it after a minute or two :) he is thrilled but also surprised as it was our first month trying!

Yes only joined MN when I found out! I had to tell someone and couldn't as I had to wait to tell my husband when I got home. Thank goodness, otherwise I would have burst with the excitement!!!

I was actually thinking in a way a small house will be good as it will prevent my buying too much stuff!!!
