Uncontrollable shivering

I'm 33 wks pg and last night when I got up to do the first loo trip (!) I shivered uncontrollably and felt FREEZING for about 5 mins.

It was quite violent shivering and tbh scared me half to death so I had a terrible night's sleep.

Apart from being tired, this morning I'm fine. The baby is moving loads as per usual.

Anyone else had this? Any advice would be much appreciated!

Are you feverish? I'd phone MW about it, tbh.

Hi BillBrysonsRucksack

It sounds like rigors - the shaking and shivering which happens when you have a severe infection. I think you should go to the hospital urgently today to get checked out. If the antenatal clinic have closed when you get there you can go to A&E. Loads of us have urine infections during pregnancy without realising it and if untreated they can be extremely dangerous for you and the baby.

Sorry not to be more reassuring!

I'm not feverish - thought I would be actually!

Confused do you think it's that even though I have no temperature and it only happened once?

I had this the day after i gave birth to ds2, i had a water infection that had gone undetected, had a temp of 105 but was freezing and shivering like you, i was on a drip of anti b's for 5 days to get rid

please get in touch with your MW asap or go to A&E

VinegarTits · 14/04/2011 13:23

btw i didnt feel warm to the touch and would never have known i had a temp, but my temp was sky high, i also felt quite well (apart from the shivering)

Thanks for the replies ladies. Answerphone at M/W so I'm off to see MIL (a nurse) for a further opinion.

Just to let you all know, I spoke to maternity triage and they told me to see my GP, which I am doing tomorrow

okay, good luck. Don't delay phoning MW if it happens again.
My other thought was blood sugar related.

VinegarTits · 15/04/2011 13:19

How did you get on with the GP Bill?

wigglesrock · 15/04/2011 13:35

Bill hope all is well, but just to let you know I had this with dd3 (she's now 8 weeks old) from exactly the same point in pregnancy. No known cause, just one of those many pregnancy quirks. I had no temp either but it scared the shite out of me and husband first time it happened. Good luck and I hope GP can help.

WidowWadman · 15/04/2011 16:11

Hope you are well now and it was a one of - when I had it, I ended up being admitted to hospital with a kidney infection, needing IV antibiotics. I started shivering in the night, stopped for a few hours/fell asleep, and started again in the morning, so took myself to hospital pdq.

The body shivers to bring temperature up quickly, so it's not surprising that you don't have a fever when you start shivering.
