I hated the liquid stuff, so took the double action tablets, spent a fortune on them though

emmah194 · 13/04/2011 14:53

have you tried herbal teas? I can't recommend one for heartburn but was suffering from indigestion that gaviscon wasn't helping at all and the nice man in the health food shop recommended an after dinner tea that turned out to be a miracle cure for me.

Cold milk, hot water, chewable rennies are more bearable than gaviscon - about £3 for 3 packs.
Watermelon helps me.
Lucky you only having 10 days to go...I've had heartburn from very early on and still have 7 weeks to go, argh!

Peppermint tea no good

I agree about trying a different type of gaviscon. The tablets didn't work for me at all, and I;m not convinced about the bottle I now have... but the one dose liquid things really helped. I guess its not all quite the same formula.

I'm on rantitidine. It def helps although you do have to take it regularly. Why would you have to wait so long for a Dr?

vj32 · 13/04/2011 16:33

oh, and cut out anything that makes it worse:
chocolate, cola, spicy food, tomatoes (!), cheese, orange juice.

Basically only eat bland stuff.

I have ended up going to the hospital twice now in the middle of the night for problems related to digestion, in serious pain the first time, so do sympathise. At least you have not got long to go.

LisMcA · 13/04/2011 16:36

I take ranitidine, was magic to start with (started at 32 weeks) but with only 3 days to go heartburn has made a reappearance when lying down!

I find very cold custard helps. You can get little pots from the supermarket.

Oh our gp surgery is crap vj32. No chance today. Wouk have to be lucky to get appointment tomorrow in phonecall lottery system or wait for gp to call me after surgery hours. Then wait for prescription if you go via phonecall system.
May send dh out to get different gaviscon later.
