Having CVS on Monday

had my 12 week scan yesterday and have been told there's a 1 in 56 risk that the baby has DS, and if it's not that, it could be a cardiac problem.

Obviously we're gutted - it took us 18 months to conceive and being told there may be a problem is just devastating.

That stat actually works out to be a less than 2% chance of DS...but my mind can't seem to take that in and I just keep focusing on the negative side at the mo.

Am going for the CVS on Monday and will go from there.

We did get to see and hear a heartbeat and the baby was waving its arm all over the place which was really lovely to see.

Is anyone else in the same boat? Or have already been through it?

Hi,

I am very sorry for your result, however, the odds are definitely in your favour! You could be in the 55!

I personally have no advice, but thought that the Antenatal Testsboard may have more information for you?

Good luck!

I received a 1:50 risk of Downs last month from my blood results - scan and nuchal testing didn't show a problem. I opted for an amnio to get a definite result. The initial results came back three days later and the full genetic results a week after that (god bless the NHS, I was told to expect a wait of up to three weeks). After convincing myself that the baby had DS and pretty much disconnecting from the pregnancy (at 20 weeks - bloody scary), we got a completely clear scan, and my baby is doing great. It's impossible not to worry yourself sick over this, I know. My only advice is don't give up - this is just an indicator, not a result. Be kind to yourself, take a few days off work - or at least I did, anything outside of crying and worrying was beyond me - and I hope you and your partner can be there for each other. The odds are on your side. I really hope you get the result you want.
