Hi, I went to work this morn but had to leave after about a hour as the pain was unbearable - got an app with midwife in my GP's surgery straight away, 2 midwives were there and both seemed concerned for me after urine test didnt show up anything ( i had thought it was a kidney infection) they get me an emergency appointment with the GP and said he would probably refer me to hospital for a scan and that i would be resting for the rest of the week.

So i seen the doctor and after poking and prodding around he more or less said its just the random pains pregnant women can get and gave me painkillers. Now i dont have much confidence in this doctor after he mis-diagnosed my mum and DH before. He did say go to casulty if it gets any worse. So i'm sitting at home now in agony and am just wondering am i overreacting and should i just get on with it as advised by doc or should i take the midwifes thoughts more seriously.

anyone had similar pains and in your experience who would know more a midwife or a GP?

Is it a tingling/numb kind of pain in your leg? I wonder if it could be sciatica, which I've had although not in pregnancy. Although I would have thought that'd be obvious to the GP?

Both MW and GP ruled it out straight away, tbh i was in that much pain and i cant even remember the reason they gave to rule it out.

Forgt to say im 28+4.

When I was 23 weeks, I had side back pain that got worse when I got up out of a chair one day. It was so painful, my husband bought me some heat pads as recommended by the midwife and he tried to settle me in bed with one on. Well after laying there in agony for 2 hours I started to cry the pain was so bad, it felt like kidney pain (Ive had this before) So we ended up going to A&E at about 1 in the morning. They thought it might be kidney pain or pre labour so they gave me 5 mil of morphine and admitted me to the urology ward. I had numerous blood tests and even a ultrasound to see if I had a stone. Which I didnt, they checked the baby, everything was fine but I was still in pain.
In the end they discharged me, with the same excuse as you, its pregnancy related pain that we cant explain!
I was still in pain when I got home so I rung the doctor and she listened to me and said it sounded like a had pulled a muscle in my back and getting up out of the chair made it go into spasm, and because your muscle and ligaments are all soft and handleing more than normal the spasms didnt stop. She prescriped me co-codomol to help wth the pain and told me to rest up and take it easy as it would take a long time to heal as I was pregnant. If I had to discribe the pain it was like some one stabbing me, it was such a sharp pain.

You could have a similar thing with added sciatica, maybe even SPD. If your not happy with what your doctor told you or the midwife then maybe ring the hospital maternity unit, they deal with more prenancy related stuff anyway and might help you put your mind at rest.

I hope it gets better, mine did but I still have back pain form time to time and have to wear a carrimore support band which is a god send.

Neither mentioned SPD and i didn't even really know wat it was until i looked it up here.

With sciatica would the pain also be in your belly too and get sorer everytime the baby kicks?

Maybe you should have another word with your midwife and then see if you can go to the maternity unit at hospital, see a doctor their that knows about pregnancy, I think its the only way your going to put your mind at rest.

SPD though can make everything hurt, from what my friend at antenatal class says

Went to hospital last night as pain got worse, was sent to fetal assessment unit, got seen ny doc and midwife but they are still unsure- think it may be muscular, but they are happy the LO is fine so thats a relief!

Pains not as bad today but has moved to front more and lower down hope it passes soon Sad
