Less movement normal at 37 weeks?

My baby is still moving but over at least the last couple of days I have noticed a lot less movements than there used to be. I kind of thought that would be normal as there is less room for it to move round now, but now I worry that maybe it isn't moving enough. How much is enough? Is there a certain number of times it should move in a set time period?
Probably I will go to bed now and find that it wakes up as soon as I get into bed and keeps me awake all night moving, but at least that would be reassuring!

The general guideline is that you should feel at least 10 movements per day. I'm 37+4 and it's getting a bit cramped in there now!

But, if you don't think you're feeling 10 movements/day, then contact your delivery suite/midwife. Better safe than sorry.

Hope this helps!

I got told 10 movements over a 2 hour period at this stage which includes seeing any movement iykwim. Please please please get checked out if you are worried - ring your maternity ward or midwife for advice. They don't mind in the slightest.

At 39+5 I suddenly realised I hadn't felt any movements for 24 hours. Went to hospital for monitoring - as soon as they put the monitoring belt on, baby gave a great big kick, and all was well. Midwife said that babies sometimes have 'a rest' just before they're born. She was right - 3 hours after getting home, my waters broke & baby born that evening. But I agree with others, go and get checked out. Midwives don't mind, and it's reassuring for you.

Thanks. It moved around a bit last night after I posted but little movements like pokes rather than the big kicks it has done previously. Maybe yesterday I just didn't notice little movements while I was doing things, so today I am not going to do much and concentrate on how often it is moving. It has been doing 10 movements in 2hrs this morning. I just kept a note and it did 10 movements in 22 minutes. Does it have to be 10 movements in every 2hr period? Surely sometimes it is asleep for all or most of the 2hrs? I am also reassured that the hospital is always there as an option if I get too worried again, especially as you all say that the midwives don't mind even if everything turns out to be fine.
