TENS machine help

Hi, hope someone has some advice for me. My friend has lent me her TENS machine, but I've noticed its not a maternity one. She said she used it when she was in labour, but it says in the manual not to use when pregnant. I wondered what the difference was between normal TENS machine and a maternity one, and if it would be safe to use?? Thanks.

If it helps, my maternity TENS machine actually says not to use it during pregnancy and AFAIK they are really only supposed to be used during labour, which is why they have the warning (in case you use it during pregnancy and start labour early? Confused).
I am sure there are plenty of MNers who have a greater knowledge than I who will post forthwith Grin.

I recently went to see the maternity Physio at my local hospital & she drew crosses on my back so DH knows exactly where to stick the pads, and went through how to use my machine. I'm sure if you gave them a ring they would be able to tell you for sure whether you can use it during labour.
