Am I going to waste the doctors time? :S

ive read on various websites that doctors get annoyed when you go to them to tell them ur PG? I dunno what else to do cz i dunno the number for the midwife or whatever! Its on Thursday I hope he wont shout at me :(

Its fine, just go, say that you are pregnant and that you need a referral. Or if you are meant to contact a midwife first then you could ask your GP practice receptionists will be able to give you the number for the midwife.

I've never heard of a doctor shouting at a patient because they are pregnant!!!!!!
Don't worry about telling your doctor first. You are lucky to get an appointment. I was told that there were no bookable appointments for three weeks, so I ended up telling the woman on reception who then made me an appointment with the midwife instead.
If you are worried about seeing the doctor then call the surgery and say you need a first appointment with a midwife, otherwise chin up and tell that big nasty doctor what you have done!!!

Just ask your surgery what their procedure is. If you don't need to see a doctor to get a booking in appt. with the MW, then don't go to see the doctor. Simples!

Ask reception - they may tell you to book directly with the midwives and give you their number. Sometimes the GP needs to refer you though.

Agree with asking the surgery -- my GP was lovely, and even though I pointed out that the hospital allowed self-referrals (have you checked your preferred hospital's website, just in case?) he insisted on doing a referral form anyway.

I went in also with the reason of asking about the flu shot, which he did then and there. But he was really nice.

I phoned and told the receptionist, she made me an appointment for a pg test with a nurse. Then they made me an appointment with the mw. I know the receptionists are normally gossipy old witches (in my experience :) ) but they do know the procedures.

I saw my doctor and he was fine about it. I think if my doctor shouted at me over anything I'd shout back.

I feel your pain, I hadn't seen a doc for over 10 years and was terrified due to bad experiences when I was younger.

Fortunately as a result of such a long hiatus I had some other things (10 years worth of stuff) to 'mention' so I could just casually throw in the pg at the same time

Ach well I'll just go and see what happens! I dont have a particular doctor (it takes over a week to get an appointment at my surgery so I take what I get!) So if he/she shouts at me I'll just cross them off my "acceptable doctors to see" list!

When I rang the surgery I asked what to do - they said for a first pregnancy I had to see the GP as soon as possible, and then the midwife at 10 weeks. Apparently for a second pregnancy you can go directly to the midwife.

When I did see the GP she told me that (a) I had done exactly the right thing to come to her straight away, and (b) assuming a normal pregnancy, I'll have to come in once a month, alternating between her and the midwife.

I never saw the GP, the receptionist gave me the midwife's number and I arranged everything straight with her.

Still, no doctor will consider it a waste of time, so don't worry! It's their job to deal with things like this!
