I'm twelve weeks and had to have an emergency first scan yesterday morning following bleeding. The woman doing the scan said that everything looked normal (thank goodness!) but there was the only movement was twitching like a dying fish!!
Is that normal? I remember seeing a scan of my aunty's baby at 13 weeks and her baby was moving all the time!
Is it normal for there not to be much movement? We really didn't get told very much.

Yes perfectly normal. Movements at 12 weeks are involuntary and can resemble spasms, they are quite disconcerting for the unprepared. I think generally babies that stage also run on about 15 minute cycles of sleep and movement so not unusual at all for small or no movement. Next time if you are worried, ask the sonographer to give bump a wobble, that usually prompts some movement...or have a cup of coffee before you have your scan!
Congrats by the way

Thank you Jasmine51. Feeling a bit better now.
I really thought there was something wrong and the sonographer wasn't givint much away!

She said "twitching like a dyeing fish"?

I'm not a sensitive person and completely understand the need to be direct and clear but is this really appropriate language.

I'm sure everything will be fine OP, she wouldn't have said everything seemed normal otherwise.

Thanks grottielottie.
I know she said everything looked normal but the other scan I have seen at 13 weeks showed loads of movement!

Its hard when the sonographers are a bit blase isnt it. My usual pattern is to come away from my scans with a huge grin on my face then 5 minutes later be in a complete panic about something minor thing they did or didnt say. I had a problem last week..had a checkup and everything was fine...then started worrying on the drive home that the heartbeat I heard might have been slower than it should be. Honestly...pg is one big paranoid worry!
