Private dating scan- dorset- how to get info?

Hi

After 2 mmc I cannot sit and wait for my 12 week scan. I've tried googling but am not having much luck. Can anyone recommend anywhere around Poole/B'mouth/salisbury/dorchester?

Bournemouth University run an ultrasound course, and also do a scanning service. Their early dating scans cost £75 and can be done between 8 - 12 weeks. See:

I paid to have my '12m week' scan at St Elizabeth's in London for about £100 when I got to 18 weeks. Easily worth it in terms of reassurance.

I just had a private scan at Bournemouth hospital last week (not a dating scan, but they do offer them). I thought they were very good! bournemouthbabyscans.co.uk/ - check the info on the "other pregnancy scans page".

I would recommend AECC University College Ultrasound Clinic on Parkwood Road, Bournemouth for early pregnancy scans. They are
specialists in Medical Ultrasound.

Prices for early pregnancy, gender and 4D scan are lower than other places as it is also a training centre, it says on website:

"The prices are low to reflect the clinic's commitment to the provision of training for healthcare professionals in medical ultrasound. Your ultrasound scan will be carried out by highly trained Sonographers, a student will not carry out the scan but maybe present. Unless you specify otherwise when appointment is booked"

You can't book yourself, referral only, so your GP or midwive, will need to recommend you.

Says on website:

1. The patient will need to inform their GPs/midwives that they are contemplating having a 4-D scan or early pregnancy scan and receive a letter of approval to bring with them to the ultrasound clinic.

1. Healthcare professional or patient books the appointment

1. On arrival at the ultrasound clinic the patient will present their letter of approval and be invited to sign a consent form.

I've had all my private scans done at Access Ultrasound in Dorchester. It's in Poundbury. I think they are usually 60 quid for just an early reassurance scan. She's been lovely both times (first time was a mmc, second time was this pregnancy and all was fine). No experience anywhere else but there is never a wait. Usually you're the only patients in the reception area and it's all very calm and peaceful. They have free parking in the back, easy to get to, etc.

I have not had great experiences at the AECC for ultrasound, it's very much a teaching clinic and not very patient centred ime (the chiropractic side however is excellent.). This time we've used babybond at wallisdown for an early scan at 7 weeks and again for Harmony at 11 weeks and found them great, but pricier. £98 iirc for the early scan.

PS I work in education and think teaching clinics are wonderful things, but each of the three times I have been to AECC for ultrasound I've hardly been acknowledged by the sonographer. Their focus is on explaining and testing the students present on what they're looking at. I felt much more of a teaching aid than a real life person!
