What sort of visual disturbances in pre-eclampsia?

My booking BP was 130/80 (always been a bit higher since PIH first pregnancy); am now 39+4. On Weds, there was trace of protein in urine (not for first time this pregnancy) an BP as 128/90; getting swollen ankles of an evening for last week or if am on my feet/vertical all morning (but thats only started last 2-3 days).

MW acknowledged BP OK for me; trace not bad etc but grilled me about headaches, visual disturbances etc, of which there were none.

Was just outside lying on a blanket in the sun with DD and cat, having hung out washing, and when I opened my eyes and on blinking, had some dark spots 'dancing' around peripheral vision - has happened many tmes before (non pregnant) and I put it down to sunlight etc when a paranoid thought struck - tried to find definitions on google of 'visual disturbances' but can't. Tempted to just take my BP and see how it is; I know our local hosp would see me if worried, but just fairly sure it's nothing (having been inside out of the direct light for 5 mins and even with rapid blinking I can't bring it on again).

Am I being daft if I don't get it checked out? Can anyone describe 'visual disturbances'?

TIA

I can't describe PE visual disturbances, but I get same black dancing spots when I open my eyes after a while snoozing in the sun. Sorry not to be more help..

Were you on your back in the sun?

Pootletrinket · 08/04/2011 18:36

No, was lying on my side. Haven't had anything strange in the last hour and fifteen and ate dinner outside, albeit out of direct sunlight. Inclined to think I was overworrying....

I had visual disturbances with PE - saw double. I think there can be quite a wide range in visual disturbances though. May be worth mentioning to the on duty community midwife tomorrow.

I had what I thought was a migraine for weeks and bright lights disturbed me ended up never putting lights on when i got home from work.

I think it is usually blurred vision or perceived flashes of light, or a blind spot in your field of vision.
Also usually abdominal pain.
It sounds more like you were in the sun too long or getting up too quickly, but you can always go in if you are worried.

Thanks everyone, I think it was just sun spots, but will be vigilant today and go in if concerned! Blooming ankles getting big earlier in the day, though!!
