Movement at 23 weeks

Christ alive, pregnancy has made me paranoid.

I'm 23 weeks tomorrow and I'm really worried about the lack of movement from my baby. I got so concerned last week that I went and saw the midwife - she let me listen to the heartbeat on a doppler and said not to panic, its my first baby and it might be 25 weeks or more before I feel much, if anything. I also have an anterior placenta which I know affects things. The thing is, a few weeks ago I was feeling her moving much more. And everyone else seems to say 18 - 20 weeks is when they felt theirs properly kick - I don't even have flutters anymore. Any advice? Should I see her again or will she just be annoyed that I haven't listened to her? I got up at 3am to drink a pint of ice cold oj and lie on my side to see if that helped, but nothing!

I didn't feel mine move much until 25ish. I think the anterior placenta can really muffle things, especially if they shift so they're kicking into it or have turned around to kick your back.

I found leaning over forwards helped, then I got kicks to the top of my tummy.

I was told not to worry about not feeling regular movements until 28 (1st baby, anterior placenta) so chances are everything is absolutely fine and your baby has just positioned itself comfortably and is kicking into a nice squishy cushion.

I am 22 weeks with 3rd and anterior placenta. By this stage with previous two had been feeling regular movement for weeks. This time barely anything. I am assuming it is placental position but have to confess I am slightly worried about attempting kick counts etc.

I do have a Doppler so know that the baby is alive, but this shouldn't really be used as reassurance later in the day. Im just assuming I will feel the baby properly in 3rd trimester when we are supposed to monitor movement.

Me too! I'm 24 weeks, felt a few thumps a few weeks back and then barely anything all this week? until last night when his daddy felt him move for the first time too. I know not worrying is almost impossible, but you're not that far off from you next midwife appointment so try and relax in the meantime. Stressing = bad for you and baby anyway (note to self: must take own advice).

I know how you feel. I'm 20+6 with anterior placenta and still haven't felt anything I know is movement. I had my 20wk scan just under two weeks ago when all was fine and went to the GP on Monday and listened to the heartbeat (as well as discovering that kiwi fruit are apparently mother nature's lactulose), but am still worried. My GP was lovely and said I could go back before my next MW appt (not til 25wks) to listen again if I wanted; which I almost certainly will.

I was at least 25 weeks before I felt anything. First pregnancy. Don't worry, I am sure all is well.

Im 27 weeks and have been feeling baby move less, shes almost changed her routine and when she does move I feel it less than I did at 22-25 weeks.
I saw the midwife on Wednesday and she checked heartbeat and all is fine and like you I have anterior placenta, so she said its probably just because of babys position. x
