Hi All
I am 36 weeks with DC2 and dd has just turned two. I had decided to get her a lovely baby doll for when dc2 arrives and had been doing copious reasearch into which one etc. I had dreamy thoughts of her tending to her baby as i tend to her little bro... (she is very "maternal"!)
Anyway come last friday and MIL has taken DD to town. I met her in ELC where she was buying a "few bits" for DD and discover to my horror that she has bought (and given) DD a baby doll (and all of the crap that can go with ie buggy, high chair, car seat )Hmm.
Initially I was really upset as had spent so much time thinking about the bloody thing and been quite nervous of life with two. MIL wasn't to know my plan though and was only spoiling DD.
Sooo, now I have got over myself any ideas as to other presents that we can get her? I love the idea but cant think of anything that will suit? We are also sorting a playhouse for her but short of suggesting DC2 bought it so she can move out when the screaming gets too bad I dont think that will work in quite the same way....
TIA

Ahh what a shame you MIL got there first.

Its a hard one coz your idea was so good.

When my brother was born I was 2.5 and I remember getting a bar of chocolate the first time I saw him and a packet of crisps the second time. Not really great pressies but I was happy.

Anyway lets think

does she like anything else, favourite tv show or animal?

Or how about one of those teddy factory teddys or what ever they are called. that shop where you make a teddy? You could take her there before the babies born and get one for the baby and one for her slightly different but the same.

Very annoying that your MIL got there first. What a brilliant idea!

I think the bear workshop would be a nice idea as greenzebra suggests

One thing which I got for DS1 was one of the Usbourne books with a wind-up toy. It was great to give him in the hospital, because it is quite small but interesting and kept him busy for a while while the in-laws cuddled the baby. How about this one? www.usborne.com/catalogue/catalogue.aspx?cat=1&area=CG&subcat=CGNG&id=4891

Hiya, it is a shame MIL got there first with the doll but she will probably still 'mother' the doll while you are looking after her baby brother.

When my DS2 was born my DS1 was 2.7 and my Mum gave him a plastic lunchbox filled with stickers of every shape and size and a small ringbound book with colourful pages to stick them in. He absolutely loved it and he would often sit with me while I BFed DS2 chatting about the stickers or go off and do it by himself if he wanted some quiet time.

Something interesting to keep them occupied while you are is always good Smile

I got my DD a doll with a willy as I was expecting a boy. Not sure what I would ahve got her if someone else had beaten me to it, very annoying for you.

It also saved on the tears with my DD because she wanted DS to be called Leonard, this way he got to be called Edward and her doll is called Leonard.

Our new baby, due in 2 weeks, is getting 2 year old DS a colour etch-a-sketch. I figured this would be a nice easy thing to take to the hospital and that he can play with there without causing too much chaos if he's not interested in the baby!

DD2 "got" DD1 a Cinderella dressing up outfit! For the first couple of months, every time I looked at DD2, she had bits of glitter about her, from said outfit Grin.

How's your DVD collection? Might a couple of DVDs of episode-based stuff (Peppa Pig? Dora? Thomas? Kipper?) come in handy in the first few weeks?

Thanks all for the responses! Loads of great ideas! I'm hoping to have dc2 at home (over night whilst my pfb sleeps peacefully Hmm) so chocolate for breakfast when she meets him sounds like a winner greenzebra!.
She has loads of teddies and two in particular that are her main ones so not sure if that would work. I am planning on getting the boy version of her favorite M&P bear for her to give to DC2 though..

Beckle I think the stickers / lunchbox could be fab as she is really dextrous and quite likes that kind of thing. Maybe also a colouring book.
I'm sure she will mother her doll but I'm just sore it hasnt come from us / her new bro.. I am trying to move on honest!!
Nunnie her doll is called Patrick.. no idea where she got that from!
