Just wondring if anyone had told the midwives they believed they were due 'x date' and by scans or other means the midwives had said another?

And which did the abby arrive closer to?

My original date by my AF, usual cycles and by the point at which I got my BFP pointed to my due date being April 24th.

The midwives gave me May 9th.

So if I'm right I could be due a baby in about 2 weeks Shock

And you could go two weeks over and have it on their date anyway Wink

My due date was 25 Feb by my dates, 26 Feb by MW dates and she turned up 13 March. It really doesn't make a difference, it's an estimate :)

AliSheedy · 07/04/2011 08:56

Yes. It's quite common, really, as midwives tend to work back to your last period, whereas often you know exactly when you conceived.

I was given the 27th of Nov as my due date, but knew it was more like the 10th of Dec. Baby was born on 15th Dec, so guess I was right Grin

AliSheedy · 07/04/2011 08:57

Just bear in mind the discrepancy if they start pushing for an induction the minute you go 'over due'!

SecretSlattern · 07/04/2011 09:00

I was given 31st Jan as EDD for DD1 by MW's. I thought it was more like 14th Jan. Discussed it with MWs, had scans etc and they still maintained 31st.

DD1 was born 25th Jan so right in between both dates!

nocake · 07/04/2011 09:03

The date the MW gives you is normally worked out from the size of your baby at the 12 week scan rather than the dates of your cycle.

nannyl · 07/04/2011 09:09

I have a 2 day difference (which is pretty much no difference at all given its an estimate, supposidly accurate to 5 days either side anyway)

I know when i ovulated, to within about 12 hours, but dont know what point in time the sperm fertilised the egg, (which i think can be up to 36 hours after it was released?)
there were plenty of sperm their already i guess, (as we were trying) but we kept trying, so i guess even knowing exactly you still can only know to within 48 hours anyway, if that makes sense!

mousymouse · 07/04/2011 09:11

for ds I had 2 due dates...I chose the later one for all the paperwork, materity leave application etc.
it is not that uncommon to have different dates.

EssieW · 07/04/2011 09:15

I was right both times with my two. NHS predicted 15th of the month for both. I predicted 22nd of the month. Both born on the 29th of the month. Luckily I had independent midwives for both so they were happy to wait it out a bit.

CBear6 · 07/04/2011 09:42

With DS the midwife said 10th July, I said I was nowhere near that far along. Sure enough, 12 week scan and I wasn't even close to 12 weeks. When I did eventually get my full scan my due date was 23rd August (which was also the day he was born).

With this one I thought my due date was 9th September, I'd missed a period but thought it was my next period which was the actual missed missed period so my estimated was based on symptoms (in my four pregnancies my sickness always started at 5 weeks, even with the two I lost). She went off LMP and was adamant I was due 15th August. 12 week scan showed 11th September so I was right.

Bubandbump · 07/04/2011 12:32

Hmm I am also due on the 9th May and have serious doubts (or just paranoia!) that my dates are right. Much the same as you, I officially have 4 weeks left but think I am closer to 2.

We started ttc in July last year and my lmp in august was very strange and very light. Pregnancy tests at the time showed negative though. But for about 1 week prior to my lmp, I had severe bloating, tiredness and sickness which incidentally carried on till 28 weeks..

My 12 week scan showed my due date to be 9th May which put the date of conception in the middle of my lmp and consistently since then (we have had lots of scans due to high nuchal), growth has been 2 weeks ahead of average. I know that everyone says the dating scan is the most accurate but the dates don't make sense to me and I felt the baby moving at around 17 weeks which seems quite early for a first..

But at the end of the day it will come when it will come! It just means that I am a little more ready and the bag is packed...

Poppet45 · 07/04/2011 14:10

My first EDD was July 31 based on LMP, scan put it back to August 16th. This was because DS's bowel was still out of his body and should have migrated inside by then but it hadn't. However he was consistently big for scans and fundal height, and when he turned up on August 19th he was 98th centile for height, 91st for weight, had no vernix left whatsoever and all the skin was peeling on his hands and feet. In other words a classically overdue and huge baby ..... 9lb 6 and I only put on a couple of stone during the whole of the pregnancy, so huge relative to me, he got stuck and was hauled out through the emergency exit (sigh).
Thank goodness with this one my dates and the sonographer's agree within three days. I can live with three days... well unless it messes with my VBAC plans at the end, in which case I shall have to pull rank.

Lola10 · 07/04/2011 14:20

Before my first scan I was told the baby is due at 28th December, after 1st scan 7th of January and at the end the baby was born on 3rd January.

They don't know for 100% after 37 weeks they consider you might go to labor at any time because you had a finished pregnancy and the baby is ready to welcome the world.

TotorosOcarina · 07/04/2011 16:31

Bub and Bump, I have been told he is 'big' for dates too and I measure a aweek or so ahead.

My last 2 have been ontime so I'm getting ready for the begging of may really rather than 9th! 2nd or 3rd i think.

My original due date was by my very regular AF cycle, after scan i was given a date 1 week earlier, they induced me the day after he was due by my dates [stating he was a week overdue]and when he was born the midwife said he didnt look late at all! he still had vernix on him!

I think i would resist induction if that happened again i think they were too quick to induce tbh.

Nice quick labour though!

nickschick · 07/04/2011 16:50

Almost 18 years ago .....I was 19 years old and expecting our first baby - a very much planned for and wanted baby so much so I knew the dates we could possibly have conceived.

The midwife put my dates back by just over a fortnight.....no big deal I thought 'he will come when he's cooked' .......thing was he didnt.

'My' date passed and so did my due date from the midwives and still no baby ....I developed mild pre eclampsia and they had me go to the hospital every day for monitoring -one day my urine was literally protein filled and my bp through the roof,so they rushed me in and started to induce me.

After pessaries,a synctocin drip,ARM,foetal head monitoring, epesiostomy, ventuose and then EMCS Sad ds1 was born ,he wasnt breathing at all and scored 0 on his apgar - he was rushed to ICU and they managed to get him breathing he was on a ventilator and his incubator was draped with a black towel, they assumed hed have brain damage and he was deemed a cerebral baby.....his face(near his eye) was cut open- his head was v badly scarred- his head measured 38 cm.

The midwive in SCBU said 'you went over due didnt you?' I told her when I had believed he was due and she said he was 44 ++++ weeks.

He is ok now (Thank God) but its not a pleasant experience from my story.

Poppet45 · 07/04/2011 21:01

Gosh Nickschick, that's a scary story.

Woodlands · 07/04/2011 21:08

How scary Nickschick.

By my dates my due date should have been the 18th, which I was fairly confident about. But at my scan (at 11+3 by my dates) they said I was only 10+3, so put my due date back to the 25th. I had to rebook for the nuchal scan as 10+3 was too early, so I had another scan at 13+6 (by the new date) and, wouldn't you know it, by then the foetus was too big for the nuchal measurement.

Anyway, he came on the 18th in the end (8lb 13oz), so I felt vindicated!
