Could an internal / swab at 39+5 start labour...?

Took myself to the labour ward this afternoon, as I thought my waters had gone whilst going for a walk (to make my waters go!).

All good, had the baby HB monitored and contractions (none, but regular BHs / tightenings) for 30 minutes. Followed up with an internal to see if my waters had gone - which involved lots of coughing to see if any water pooled out. Nothing, no dilation, plug still in.

The midwife took a swab (not routine), rather as I'd self-admitted, to see if an infection could have caused the gush and leaking. She thought there was a bit of discharge there, so could be an infection, eg thrush, or just 'late pregnancy increased discharge'.

Left hospital at 4.30pm, and since about 7pm have been having more and more contractions / BH, and another 'leak'.

I'm not worried, just wondered if anyone else had any experience of such a thing happening?

Thanks in advance!
