Hello, I have 3 weeks left to go before having my first baby via C-section and I was wondering what you wanted to get organised/done before the baby came?

Cleaning up, sorting photograph albums (hopelessly unrealistic) and filing all our loose bits of paperwork/admin crap are all on my list - but I've also been thinking about less practical stuff. Am feeling that life is going to change forever for me and DH, so I have an urge to go away for the weekend or at least have a very nice meal out somewhere! Did anyone else do anything special before the big arrival?

I was talking about this today with the mum of two toddlers! She suggested

  • see your childless friends (because they may not comprehend just how busy etc you are)
  • take a trip away for the weekend to a luxury hotel

I still have three months to go and have a trip planned to Paris, a day's (leisurely) cycling along the canals, a day wandering round museums followed by posh afternoon tea, hosting a few dinners for cherished friends, and finishing the bloody baby blanket I started so enthusiastically five months ago.

Hadn't spared a thought to cleaning...

I want to get first DS to sleep through the night before the next one arrives!

I'm due on Tuesday and got 2 cleaners in today as I'm TOO tired (have 4 yo as well) and have finally given up on DH coming good on his promises (house is FAR cleaner than it would have been if he'd done it!).

Stock up your freezer so you can just make sure you get fed things you like etc.

Foot massage/reflexology or other pampering would be lovely.

Go swimming/floating!

We had a meal out before DC1's due date and it was the last meal we had in the evening with just the 2 of us!

Get your hair cut - who knows when you will next have a chance.

MummyAbroad · 06/04/2011 15:02

good point kitty especially as you will be starring in so many photos!

I keep deciding to decorate different rooms lol, only problem is at 35 weeks pregnant with twins I can't do it myself as my pelvis has died!!

I've got 3 others and the eldest is 4 and then twins who are 2 so it's manic here at the best of times let alone me deciding things need doing - I'm currently working my way through the huge ironing pile that has grown since I was kept in hospital and got behind with it.

I am 36 weeks and my biggest ambition is to have the nursery finished before the baby is born. There is not a lot I can personally do to achieve this though. My father-in-law is coming round most days to do plastering and other major DIY things, then DH is going to paint. My other major thing is to have found a car seat that fits in our car and bought it, which is a big problem at the moment. We have an old but popular make of car but almost no baby seats fit in it.
On a less essential note, get my hair cut and read as many books as possible. I would recommend going away for a weekend. DH and I went to London for his birthday when I was 28 weeks and I'm really glad we got to spend that time together as I worked most weekends. Now I'm on maternity leave we can spend time together on weekends but so far we have ended up shopping for baby things and getting stressed and arguing about it.

Hair and big house clean, failed on both previous pregnancies, 3rd time lucky I hope.

With a 4 year old, and when I am due an 11 month old I am not planning a too unrealistic list, and hair is coming first Wink

MrsMogwai · 06/04/2011 16:27

I'm due in 5 days and my list still has two thirds unticked! H has been working pretty hard so not getting as much done as he'd like and my energy levels are depleting more and more with every day. Got the main things done like making room for the babies things, but would like to clear out some more cupboards, re-organise the kitchen and file and shred stuff.

lots of bus journeys on the upper deck across beautiful london. ds is now 4 weeks old and i am yet to go outside as his feeding is so frequent and long.

Ooh, lots of brilliant ideas and advice, thanks to you all!

Getting a hair cut and stocking up the freezer sound particularly good, and DIY is an ongoing battle - we recently moved house and had builders in for 6 weeks, so just getting rid of the brick dust would be a major achievement I feel...

But hopefully we can fit in a night away somewhere - have romantic visions of me and DH talking about the baby and plans, but I will probably be snoring away by 8.30!!
