I felt exactly the same at 16 weeks! I am now 23 weeks and I still feel 'fat' sometimes but my bump is very noticable. I now wear maternity jeans. Other than that I wear leggins most of the time! And feeling bloated is normal I think as I had it a lot.

Congrats by the way! xx

pinkdaisy · 06/04/2011 12:10

Congrats to you too Charleigh!!! Think leggins are definitely the way forward!!! Can't wait until people can actually see for sure i'm pregnant rather than thinking I have just put on a few pounds!!!!

About 6 months with DS1
Went into mat stuff with DS2 in August and he was born mid October.

Charleigh0 · 06/04/2011 12:12

Yes they certainly are Grin

Well it won't be long, time flies, one day I was a size 10 and now I have a big bump! :) x

much earlier with DC2 than DC1 though partly that was because I already had them and knew I would just be more comfortable. You can use a hairband to expand your waistbands by an inch or so or get a bump band (few quid from ASDA) which covers undone buttons / zips. MAt jeans are a pain and I have yet to find a pair that don't slip down. Have spent much more time in leggings, denim skirt (mothercare or H&M) etc this time. You will be quite big in the summer so go for easy cotton dresses at that point - not necessarily mat. ones, just a floaty loose design. Fat Face and White Stuff are great for non mat clothes that work when pregnant.

wobblyweeble82 · 06/04/2011 12:24

Well, my first was about 20 weeks. This time though (I'm 34 weeks), it must have 13 weeks Blush I'm now living in linen maternity trews from Peacocks of all places. £16 and soooo comfy. Like swanning about in my pjyamas. I've not been able to tolerate skirts or dresses this time - for whatever reason I can't stand my legs touching.

SouthGoingZax · 06/04/2011 12:30

Ha ha all of you!

7 weeks for me and my clothes all felt tight - 7 WEEKS!!!

(it was twins though!) Wink

nunnie · 06/04/2011 12:33

I was 25 weeks with my first, and 20ish weeks with my 2nd, this time I am 16 weeks and look like I've raided a pie shop and have burst out of my already tight fitting jeans, but still fit in my ill fitting hipster trouser and jeans hoping to get a couple more weeks out of them as I can't be bothered going in the loft. With all my pregnancies I have avoided maternity tops just wear a size larger than usual and baggy tops.

lolajane2009 · 06/04/2011 12:35

I've just gone a size up on my tops and getting the loose flowing dresses from primark and hoping they will last till the end.

emmah194 · 06/04/2011 12:53

I gradually moved into maternity clothes from about 14/15 weeks, starting with work trousers as all of mine got too tight. I'm now 36+2 and am mostly wearing maternity clothes except for a few pre-pregnancy tops which still fit.

Leilababyno1 · 06/04/2011 13:43

You are really lucky if you can get away with wearing normal clothes after around 4 months...I was in maternity jeans by around 14 weeks, just depends on how your bump developes. Some people, particulary if they are short- get a noticable bump very early, others not...

Play it by ear, but if you are starting to feel uncomfortable in your normal size clothes I would opt for getting a pair of maternity jeans or a belt extender that you can use on your current trousers.

Bump bands are good too, which you can wear over jeans if you need to keep the flies undone...Smile

lolajane2009 · 06/04/2011 13:54

I'm 16 weeks and can still get my size ten jeans on as I seem to be carrying high... my breasts and stomach mean I can't get into my size 10 tops though.

LuluLozenge · 06/04/2011 14:04

I'm 27 weeks and still no maternity clothes ... just sticking with my baggier stuff and living in leggings.

RingEir · 06/04/2011 14:45

About 21 weeks. I tried to stick it out as long as possible, but I am sorry I didn't go into maternity wear a bit earlier. It's much more comfortable.

citymonkey · 06/04/2011 14:47

I am 17 weeks tomorrow and on Monday my bump just popped out - it is so odd. Until then, no bump, flat tummy, no weight gain (I am 5'6" and 8st 10/11). I have put on 1.5lbs since Monday! I think now you would probably guess from looking at me that I am pregnant, especially if wearing anything form-fitting (I had a silk jersey dress on for work yesterday and looked obviously pregnant).

All of my normal clothes still fit but are a bit uncomfortable - my jeans are baggy round the bum but too tight at the front where the bump is pushing out. Think this might be because they are all low-rise though. I am going to try and get some maternity jeans this weekend and have just ordered a load of stuff from Isabella Oliver! So excited to be FINALLY looking a bit pregnant!

daimbardiva · 06/04/2011 15:42

I'm 16 weeks, and have just looked out my maternity stuff - due to having burst a pair of jeggings last week!!! Blush

firsttimer84 · 06/04/2011 17:48

Im 16 weeks as well today and i spent last night searching ebay for maternity bargains! Bought a bump band, some jeans and some black trousers. I was getting sick of not being able to pull my jeans high up enough and them riding down all the time. I know the jeans will be too big for a bit yet but its so exciting gettting bigger!

PenguinArmy · 06/04/2011 18:07

I went into the next size clothes up to start with (12 weeks) and then into maternity stuff (though never found anything I like).

I'm in the US now with pg#2 and although I've not proper hunted, I can't believe the difference in choice (although not sure if they do stuff for shorties). Am currently 12 weeks but is same clothes but I had lost weight so clothes were a little big anyway.

PrincessScrumpy · 06/04/2011 18:28

by 15 weeks but I'm having twins. I seem to have skipped the looking chubby is she pg?/isn't she pg? stage and gone for massive bump. Was a bit put out today when a pupil asked if I was pg before another teacher (who is due 3 months before me!).

Mind you I was in mat clothes at 17 weeks with dd1 as I was all bump.

DurhamDurham · 06/04/2011 18:31

At about 7 months I had to resort to some maternity jeans and leggings. Nothing much happened before that time, my waist thickened and my boobs grew abit but that's about it!

toomuchtimeonline · 06/04/2011 18:34

I definitely think its how you carry. I was still wearing normal jeans with this pregnancy until 30 weeks as my bump was so high (she was breech most of the time). Yet with my first pregnancy I was on maternity by 14 weeks as Ds was so low..

davidtennantsmistress · 06/04/2011 18:38

20+1 and I do both tbh depends on if I want to feel comfy or not. with DS it was about 24-25 weeks ish, but didn't really have any maternity clothes thou as had 'bump isshooos' however this time DP is total opposite to XH and is encouraging me to show off my 'bump' with floaty maternity tops. - is a proud dadda! :o

coastgirl · 06/04/2011 18:43

22+2 and I am embracing maternity clothes fully now. Have been wearing normal clothes + bump bands for about a month already and was using bobbles on the waistbands at about 11 weeks! It's my first but I'm normally a 6-8 and short so my bump's quite noticeable. Just ordered a load of stuff online and went through my packed-away summer clothes looking for clothes that work - drawstring linen trousers, unzipped with bump band should be OK, ditto for A-line cotton skirts. Have also found loads of floaty dresses in the shops which are huge even now and fairly cheap (Peacocks, New Look etc). Tesco currently have loads of floaty tops that will work for ages as well.

jimmijam · 06/04/2011 20:42

hi, from memory my normal clothes sstarted to become tight from around 9 weeks (3rd baby), i started wearing bump band at around 11 weeks and maternity jeans from around 12 weeks-soooo comfy!

apple99 · 06/04/2011 20:58

I am 20+3 with dc2 and started wearing maternity jeans at the weekend. Have been living in leggings with dresses/tunics but will need to get some maternity dresses I think as I look an odd shape in regular dresses now, I think with maternity dresses they give you a 'pregnant' shape rather then looking like you have eaten to much in your normal clothes.
