I had my booking appointment with my midwife last week and have now got the first scan booked (I will be twelve weeks)along with my first appointment with a midwife at the hospital. I've been told that this next midwife appointment will take up to two hours!! Has anyone any idea what happens during this appointment? I filled all the paperwork at my booking appointment.. or so I thought!

The scan takes about 15-20 minutes.

I had blodds done at my booking in, if you didn't you will have these then. I also had a dating appointment with the midwife which took about 30 minutes.

All in all including alot of waiting it took about 2 hours and 30 minutes.

Infact I have never attended a hospital appointment that doesn't contain more waiting time than seeing. Take a book.

Thanks nunnie. Taking my other half so he can be there for the scan and entertain me for the rest of the time! Smile

What happened in the dating appointment? Is it more forms to fill in?

At my scan I had my scan, weight done, blood taken, saw midwife then saw consultant as I was high risk. I had to do no more paperwork but they had to go over my notes as I am an 'interesting case'. My scan took half an hour due to tilted uterus, naughty baby and a mommy that wouldnt stop laughing.

All in all took 4hrs but mostly waiting

Dating appointment was a waste of time, it was basically, this is the date your scan has dated you at. Chat about a trial I am eligible for and telling me I will need to see a Consultant and to make the appointment on the way out.
To be honest my DS was born in October last year, and the dating appointment wasn't done then it is new and another excuse to keep people waiting around pointlessly.

Had my weight and height done too to get BMI.

Took a seat and waited while filling in forms, then had scan (30 min) then sit down, then weighed (5 min) then sit down then bloods (5 min) then go - was quite organised but when I said sit down that was what they said to do but not enough chairs. Good luck x
