Dear All,

I am studying on an MA in Child Psychotherapy and looking to find a soon-to-be-mum to do a mother and baby observation. This be for an hour a week and run for 18 months.

The observations are an uncritical look at the relationship between mother and baby, and an extremely valuable part of the training.

This can be a very rewarding experience for the mum too, as she is witnessed in the relationship with her child, and has someone visiting once a week showing an interest in her and baby.

I am looking for someone in North/ East/ London. I am Male, live in North East London with my girlfriend who is also pregnant. It would be good to meet before you have the baby.

Please let me know if you are interested!

sorry I cant help you, but just wanted to say if I was in your area I would have done this. I was the subject of a similar project when I was born and the lady in question gave me a book of her work afterwards. It makes a good addition to my baby book.

Good luck on finding a subject.

was just thinking, how far along is your partner? Could you get her to ask her midwife if any of her mums to be are interrested, or leave a poster in the sure start centre near you. Or if you are going to antenatel classes ask one of the mums there.

Thanks very much for the replies! I'm glad to hear the book is something of value to you and that is something I'll be putting together too.

My girlfriend is about 11 weeks now - great idea to ask her midwife!! Can't believe I didn't think if that!

I am in Watford and due on 12 May - is Watford too far out for you?

studentmotherandbabyobs · 05/04/2011 14:09

Thanks very much indeed for the offer! I actually study in Hendon which looking at the map doesn't seem too far from Watford. Perhaps it could work if I could combine the obs with my trip to Hendon to study. Would it be ok to email me to continue discussing this? My email is [email protected]. Thanks again.

In regards to the suggestion that you recruit participants through your partners midwife....

You have to have ethical approval from an NHS Research ethics committee before you recruit research participants from within the NHS.

The process of gaining ethical approval is lengthy but it is set up to protect patients.

Good luck!

OK, thanks for the info.
